Pixel 2 squeeze feature revealed in latest Google App teardown

The Pixel 2 will come with Active Edge feature, which will similar to HTC’s EdgeSense.

Google is all set to launch the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL smartphones on October 4. We already know that the Pixel 2 will be manufactured by HTC and it seems that Google will implement HTC U11 EdgeSense-like squeeze feature on the upcoming Pixel 2.

According to a report by 9To5Google, the Pixel 2 will come with Active Edge feature, which will similar to HTC’s EdgeSense. The publication did a teardown of the 7.12 version of Google app. Users will be able to initiate Active Edge to access settings for the Google app. The teardown also revealed that one can also activate Google Assistant by squeezing the edges of the upcoming smartphone.

In addition to this, Google Assistant will get some new and interesting features as well. To start with, the virtual assistant will come with a new feature known as Routines that might allow users to initiate multiple things with just a single command. Further, Google app teardown reveals that one can set the different voice of Assistant as per their requirement.

Other than this, users might also be able to set select different hotword other than “Ok Google” to activate Google Assistant. However, it is not known at the moment whether they will be allowed to create their personal hotword or have to choose from a predefined list.

Recollecting some key specifications, larger Taimen or Google Pixel 2 XL will come loaded with a 5.99-inch Quad HD display, which will feature an OLED panel provided by LG, as per a report by XDA Developers. The smartphone is expected to sport a smaller bezel as compared to its predecessor, the Google Pixel XL and will come with a 4GB of RAM.

There will be a 128GB storage model, however, one could expect different storage configurations as well. It is reported to feature a single camera setup at the rear panel coupled with a dual-tone flash. Lastly, the smartphone is reported to sport a similar two-tone glass and metal design, though the glass window will be placed near the top.

Coming to smaller Walleye, the smartphone will feature a similar 4.97-inch Full HD display and will sport a similar design language as we have seen in original Pixel. Google is also planning to add stereo speakers at the cost of 3.5mm headphone jack, which means it will sport USB Type-C compatible headphone slot. The phone is reported to feature 4GB of RAM and there will be a 64GB storage variant as well. One can also expect different storage models as well.
