OnePlus to launch a 5G-enabled flagship smartphone next year

OnePlus co-founder Carl Pie took the stage during the Summit to announce that the company will be one of the first to launch a 5G smartphone.

Qualcomm recently conducted its 4G/5G Summit 2018, where it talked the future of 5G across the global. Qualcomm president Cristiano Amon revealed that at least two 5G smartphones will be launched next year and we now know that one of them will be OnePlus.

OnePlus co-founder Carl Pie took the stage during the Summit to announce that the company will be one of the first to launch a 5G smartphone. He further revealed that the brand has already conducted a successful 5G test back in August this year at Qualcomm’s headquarters in San Diego. Although there is no information available about this 5G smartphone, will be surely a flagship device, which could be none other than OnePlus 7.

OnePlus is not the not only company which will bring 5G smartphone in the market. Motorola already unveiled its first 5G-ready smartphone earlier this year. The company introduced Moto Z3 with a 5G Moto Mod through which the phone will utilise the 5G network. The company has also partnered with Qualcomm to use its flagship Snapdragon X50 and millimetre wave components for the new mod.

Huawei is also planning to launch a new 5G smartphone next year. The brand is reported to be working on its own 5G and it will be launched in the third quarter of 2019. Other handset players like Vivo, Xiaomi, HMD, Sony, LG, HTC, Oppo and ZTE are also reportedly working on 5G smartphones based on Qualcomm’s X50 5G NR modem.
