OnePlus CEO admits fast wireless charging is not yet ready for its smartphones

Pete, during an interview with a OnePlus employee, revealed that the company continue to test wireless charging technology, but for now, the brand has not yet found a solution for this. This simply means that the company is yet to find a breakthrough in the fast wireless charging domain.

OnePlus has been always sceptic about the wireless charging. The company revealed that OnePlus 5T will not come with wireless charging and now, company’s CEO Pete Lau has once again admitted fast wireless charging is not yet ready for mass adoption across its product lineup.

Pete, during an interview with a OnePlus employee, revealed that the company continue to test wireless charging technology, but for now, the brand has not yet found a solution for this. “We have tested and will continue to test wireless charging technology going forward, but for now, we have not yet found a solution that meets our expectations for speed and convenience. This technology also still results in a thickening of the device and a heating of the device in the charging process,” Pete said in an interview.

This simply means that the company is yet to find a breakthrough in the fast wireless charging that will help it to make maintaining a slim form factor of its latest flagship device and solve the overheating issue that might act as a hurdle if the technology is not implemented properly.

This is not for the first time, OnePlus voice its concern over wireless charging. In November last year, Pete Lau shared two reasons why the company has decided to stick with propriety Dash Charge support. Firstly, he says that wired quick charging solution outshines wireless on quantitative measures. “Just plug your device in, and Dash Charge produces 20 watts of power, reliably giving a day’s power in half an hour,” he said.

Secondly, he states that the Dash Charge gives users enough power for the day with just one charging session. “All you need is the Dash Charge cable and adaptor to consistently power your device at a superior rate. It doesn’t matter whether you’re gaming or streaming video. Dash Charge stays cool and power efficient,” he added.
