Now an ad supported Kindle 3G

Amazon makes it a point to make a statement that the Wi-Fi version of Kindle with Special Offers has done exceedingly well and that the user were actually asking for the 3G version as well, which the company has released now.

Amazon, the online retail giant, has now come up with a capable Kindle e-book reader for a special price of $164 (about Rs 7,500). Just like the earlier WiFi model, the 3G ad supported Kindle is also $25 cheaper than the one which comes without ads.

“Kindle is the bestselling e-reader in the world. It’s been just six weeks since we introduced the new $114 Kindle with special offers, and already customers have made it the bestselling member of the Kindle family,” said Jay Marine, director, Amazon Kindle.

He also said, “In response to customer requests, we’re now making these money-saving special offers available for Kindle 3G. You will get all the features readers love about Kindle 3G – free 3G wireless, global wireless access, Pearl electronic ink display that’s easy to read even in bright sunlight, access to over 950,000 ‘Buy Once, Read Everywhere’ Kindle books – all for just $164 – the lowest price for any 3G e-reader.”

Apart from the $25 reduction in price, users also get some attractive deals such as $20 Amazon gift card. Although Amazon is against the idea of using advertising within the e-book pages, may be users may end up requesting for that soon.

We can already foresee Nook Color readers waiting in anticipation. One competitor of Kindle, Barnes and Noble has already come up with a lighter Nook Color device which is priced at $139 (about Rs 6300) and has a touch-screen as well.
