Google today formally unveiled its Android One smartphones. Micromax, Karbonn, and Spice are the current marketeers who have joined hands with Google to launch their own versions of Android One.
Note that Android One programme is the opposite of Nexus programme and is aimed it to deliver vanilla Android experience at budget price. So while with Nexus series, Google wants to offer handsets with top end hardware and at the higher spectrum of budget, Android One would deliver affordable devices.
Today in a short while, Micromax, Karbonn, and Spice will unveil their Android One devices. Spice’s Android One smartphone, named as Spice Android One Dream UNO Mi-498, was leaked a day ago. You can read about it here.
Meanwhile, Micromax’s first Android One device is named as Canvas A1 while Karbonn’s will be known as Sparkle V. The Spice Android One device will be available from Flipkart while Karbonn’s is set to be sold by Snapdeal. Amazon is expected to sell the Micromax Canvas A1. All these phones will hit the physical stores by Diwali this year.
The Mobile Indian has also learned that other OEMs including Xolo, Lava, Intex, HTC, Lenovo, Asus, Acer, and Alcatel are also likely to join the Android One programme. Chip maker, Qualcomm is also set to join the fold in coming times.
