Gone is the fad of 4+ inch devices, now manufacturers are launching 5 inch display bearing smartphones. Indian handset manufacturer, Micromax, which had started the trend of low cost quad core phones with the Canvas HD A116, has now gone a step further to launch a 5.3 inch display bearing Android smartphone with a quad core processor. But this time Micromax is not the lone player, Spice too has launched a 5.3 inch display based Android handset with quad core processor.
The handsets in question are the Micromax Canvas Doodle and the Spice Stellar Pinnacle Pro Mi-535. Here is a comparison of their features.
Body and display
Both the phones have 5.3 inch display but the Canvas Doodle has a dimension of 77x147x9.9 mm against 79 x152x10.3 mm of the Spice smartphone. This means that the Spice handset has much more element surrounding the screen. This is beneficial in one way as it gives the user some space to hold the phone without touching the phone’s screen that may create unnecessary functions but at the same time, this extra bulk adds to the overall weight and the phone looks much bigger.
In a nutshell, the Canvas Doodle is much sleeker and has a smaller profile than the Stellar Pinnacle Pro. That’s why the Spice handset measures 196.3 grams while the Canvas Doodle is much lighter at 168 grams- a huge difference considering that both have the same display.
However, the Spice Stellar Pinnacle Pro has a much better 960×540 pixels resolution (207ppi) against 480×854 pixels (185 ppi) resolution of Canvas Doodle.
Here the Spice Stellar Pinnacle Pro beats the Canvas Doodle hands down. The Spice handset has 16 GB of internal memory out of which 12.6 GB is available for users. Also it has 32 GB of expandable memory slot.
On the other hand, the Micromax Canvas Doodle has only 1.22 GB of internal storage available for users to store their stuff though it has the normal 32 GB micro SD card slot as the other.
With big display and quad core processor, the prime concern of everyone is the battery life. Spice has addressed the same by keeping a 2550 mAh battery in the Stellar Pinnacle Pro. On the other hand, the Canvas Doodle has only 2100 mAh battery. Spice has not revealed the talktime but as per Micromax, the Canvas Doodle gives 6.5 hours of talktime.
Both the handsets come with 8 megapixel rear camera but the Stellar Pinnacle Pro has a bigger 5 megapixel front camera against 2 megapixel front camera of the Canvas Doodle.
Both are 3G handsets but the Spice Stellar Pinnacle Pro has Bluetooth 4.0 against Bluetooth 2.1 of the Micromax Canvas Doodle. Both the phones have though 3.5 mm jack, WiFi, and micro USB port as other connectivity options.
The Spice Stellar Pinnacle Pro has Android 4.2 Jelly Bean version while the Canvas Doodle has only the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean version. None of the operators have any encouraging past vis-Ã -vis releasing software updates so the Spice handset has to be given the upper hand in this arena as well.
Processor and performance
Both the handsets come with quad core processor but the Micromax Canvas Doodle has the Qualcomm MSM8225Q Snapdragon processor. It was part of Snapdragon 200 series and was rated quite lower than the Mediatek’s quad core solution which is being used in Spice Stellar Pinnacle Pro and many other low cost quad core phones including the famous Canvas HD A116 of Micromax itself.
Anyway, the Spice Stellar Pinnacle Pro has 1 GB RAM against a paltry 512 MB RAM of Canvas Doodle, so we are expecting the former to work much better than the later.
As highlighted above the Spice Stellar Pinnacle Pro seems to have outclassed the Micromax Canvas Doodle in each department. However having said that the heavier Stellar Pinnacle Pro is now available at Rs 14,990 while the Micromax Canvas Doodle costs only Rs 12,999.
