Sirin Labs, a Israel based startup, has announced an Android smartphone called Solarin at an insane price of $14,000 or approximately Rs 9,41,856.
At this price, Solarin joins the luxury smartphones club which includes smartphones like the Vertu Signature smartphone which was launched earlier this year at $9,000 which is approximately Rs 6 lakhs. However, it is not a gem-studded phone like the ones of Vertu. Instead, the phone’s USP is its privacy features.
As per the company, the Solarin is a privacy-first smartphone aimed at the international businessperson who carries a lot of sensitive information but doesn’t want to compromise on usability, quality or design. Solarin is available for sale in its own flagship store in London’s Mayfair and in high-end department store Harrods from 30 June.
The Solarin come with a physical security switch on its back for extra encryption. It is loaded by features from third-party companies such as mobile security, anti-cyber attack software from Zimperium; and KoolSpan chip-to-chip 256-bit AES Encryption (which is usually used by military for communications). The device has a security switch on the back that when turned on activates a shielded mode, in which users can make calls and send encrypted messages.
As far as specs of Sirin Labs Solarin are concerned, it features a 5.5-inch IPS (1440 x 2560 pixels) 2K display. It is powered by a 2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor and 4GB of RAM. The smartphone runs on Android Lollipop 5.1 operating system and comes with 128GB of internal storage. The Solarin is backed by a huge 4,040 mAh Lithium-ion battery, which claims to offer up-to 31 hours of talk-time and over 2 weeks of Standby time with Qualcomm QuickCharge 2.0 support. It also features a fingerprint sensor below the rear camera at the back.
The Solarin has a 24-megapixel rear camera with laser autofocus, quad-tone flash, optical image stabilisation and 4K video recording at 30fps. It also features an 8-megapixel front camera with flash, electrical image stabilisation and HD video recording at 60fps. The smartphone comes with support for 24 bands of LTE, and promises “far superior†WiFi connectivity than standard mobile phones. The smartphone measures 159.8 x 78 x 11.1 mm and weighs 243 grams.
The Solarin is water and dust resistant and comes in Fibre Black Carbon Titanium, Fibre Black Carbon DLC, Fibre Black Carbon Yellow Gold and Crystal White Carbon DLC variants.
