Jio SIM cards racket busted

The role of local representatives of Reliance Jio angle will also being investigated.

Indore police have reportedly arrested six persons for misleading customers by selling Jio cards without any documentation and charging anywhere around Rs 100 and Rs 1000, though Jio offering SIMs for free. For getting Jio SIM, one has to just summit the Aadhaar details and fingerprint scans. Users can enjoy unlimited data and voice calling service for free under Happy New Year offer, which is valid until March 31, 2017.

As per PTI, the police has seized total 346 Jio SIM cards, 14 pre-activated SIMs, along with four thumb impression machines. The police are also investigating that if the SIM cards were used for any criminal act or not. Moreover, the role of local representatives of Reliance Jio is also being investigated, the police said.

“The accused used to collect more than one thumb impression of the customer on the impression machine and give him/her one free SIM. At the same time, they would get the second SIM activated using the same person’s thumb impression which they have taken deceptively,” Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Amrendra Singh, said.

Just to recollect, in December last year, Snapdeal had started home delivery of Reliance Jio SIM card at selected locations in India. The user can even select the time slot in which they want the Reliance Jio SIM delivered at their doorstep.
