iBall launches smartphone with detachable camera lens

The iBall mSLR Cobalt4 also comes with an octa core processor and is priced below Rs 10,000.

Indian handset maker, iBall has added a new feather in its cap in the form of a new smartphone that comes with a detachable camera lens like DSLRs. The phone, iBall mSLR Cobalt4, comes bundled with four detachable mSLR lenses.

Detachable lenses for smartphones are not new. In 2013 itself, Sony had launched its Cyber shot DSC-QX100 and DSC-QX10 detachable lenses which can be used with any or smartphones.

But after that no other company has come out with such products which certainly would enhance the camera capability of a smartphone. Also this is the first time for an Indian company to come out with such a product.

The iBall mSLR Cobalt4 features a 5-inch IPS qHD display and Android 4.4 KitKat OS. The phone, which said to support 15 regional languages, is armed with an octa-core and 1GB of RAM. The mSLR Cobalt 4 smartphone is powered by a 2,000mAh battery. It houses an 8 rear camera on board with a dual-LED flash and autofocus; while there is also a 3.2MP front-facing shooter with a soft flash for selfies. The built-in 8GB of is further expandable with up to 32GB via a card.

Connectivity options include with dual standby, 3G, Wi-Fi,USB on the go, 4.0, and HotKnot. The bundled lenses include a zoom lens with 8x zoom, a fisheye lens with a 175-180 degree viewing angle, a with 10x magnification and minimum object distance of 10-15mm, and a lens with a 130-degree viewing angle.

Commenting on the launch of mSLR Cobalt4, Mr. Sandeep Parasrampuria, Director iBall Says, “We are very excited with our newest launch which revolutionizes and redefines smartphones. With mSLR Cobalt4 the users shall be mesmerized on the Smartphone’s Camera with detachable lenses. The Multiple options of the lens shall snap great pictures and change the way photographs are captured on the smart phones! Its again heartening that we are the first in India to launch a product with this technology.”

The iBall mSLR Cobalt4 costs Rs 8,499 and will be available across the country within few weeks in phased manner.
