Huawei P9 was recently reported not to receive Android Oreo 8.0 update in the future and the company cited hardware limitations as the reason for the same. But contrary to this, Huawei has started rolling out the Android Oreo update for the P9 smartphone. However, the update is currently rolled out only in China but it is expected to be rolled out in other markets as well.
Along with the Huawei P9, the Oreo update is also rolled out to the larger P9 Plus model and Huawei Mate 8 as well. Additionally, other Honor smartphones including Honor 8, Honor V8, Honor Note 8, and Honor Play 6X are also receiving the update.
The update introduces the newer EMUI 8.0 interface along with the goodies of Android Oreo. Users will get picture-in-picture mode that lets users to two tasks simultaneously. So, for example, one can minimize a YouTube video while sending a text message or writing an email. Android Oreo has other features like including Background limits, installation of apps via APK, over 60 new emojis, notification dots, Wide-gamut colour for apps, Snoozing individual notification, Adaptive icons, Keyboard navigation, WebView enhancements and much more.
The Huawei P9 was launched with Android 6.0 Marshmallow back in the year 2016 and later received Android Nougat update. As far as specifications are concerned, the Huawei P9 has a dual rear camera setup made in collaboration with Leica. The Huawei P9 has a 5.2-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixel) IPS LCD display. It is powered by HiSilicon Kirin 955 octa-core processor. P9 features two 12-megapixel sensors, with one capturing light in colour, and the other captures monochrome images.
