Honor launched Honor Play smartphone in India last year. Now the company has confirmed that Honor Play will not receive the latest Android 10 based EMUI update. The Honor Play was launched with Android 8.1 Oreo, and later it received Android Pie update.
Honor India official Twitter handle responded to a question by a user on Twitter (@vivesabbani) if EMUI 10 will arrive for the Honor Play soon. To which, the company replied that EMUI 10.0/Android Q will not be available for the phone due to hardware limitations as it requires higher hardware specifications for optimal performance.
The company said ” Thank you for showing your interest for EMUI 10. We would like to inform you that our software team is rigorously working and evaluating the device hardware compatibility of EMUI 10 Operating System with your device. We request you to kindly stay tuned to our official pages, HiCare App for future announcements on software updates. We appreciate your understanding and patience.”

This announcement is surprising since Honor Play comes with a Kirin 710 which is the same processor used by Huawei P20 and Honor 10 which have all been confirmed to get EMUI 10. The Honor V10 or View 10 which was launched back in 2017 will also receive the latest Huawei update. Even the Honor 8X which ships with a much less powerful Kirin 710 will also receive EMUI 10 update.
To recall the specs of Honor Play, the phone features a 6.3-inch Full HD+ display and it is powered by HiSilicon Kirin 970 chipset with 4GB/6GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage. It has a 16-megapixel primary sensor and a 2-megapixel secondary sensor at the back, while for the front, there is a 16-megapixel shooter. The phone is backed by 3750mAh battery.
