Samsung recently halted the Android Oreo update for Galaxy S8 and S8+ smartphones for unknown reasons. The company started rolling out the Android Oreo update for Galaxy S8 and S8+ smartphones earlier this month.
Now folks at SamMobile reached out to Samsung for an explanation and Samsung has now come up with an official response which reads:
“Following a limited number of cases where Galaxy S8 and S8+ devices have rebooted unexpectedly with the Android 8.0 Oreo, we have temporarily stopped the rollout of the update. We are investigating the issue internally to ensure that the impact to the affected devices is minimized and the rollout of the update can resume as quickly as possible.”
The Android Oreo rollout for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, with firmware versions G950/G955-FXXU1CRAP have been removed from the company’s servers. As of now, there’s no information on when the update will be made available again however it is said that it should be available for download soon. Further, the report says that Samsung is apparently working on a new version of Oreo which should be available soon.
Those who have already received the Oreo update earlier will be able to use the Galaxy S8 and S8+ like normal and enjoy the goodies of Oreo, but those who did not opt for the update earlier will have to keep using Nougat until Samsung announces resuming the update.
The Oreo update was first rolled out in Germany and later became available to other markets such as India, Poland, France, Turkey, Norway, India, UAE, and Belgium.
Post getting Oreo update, users can enjoy different features. To start with, there is a picture-in-picture mode that lets users to two tasks simultaneously. So, for example, one can minimise a YouTube video while sending a text message or writing an email. Google has also introduced Android Vitals, which helps in optimizing battery life, startup time and more. Under system optimizations, the company had made it easier to run faster and smoother.
Then there are the Notification dots, which are basically tiny chat heads for notifications. The user can long-tap on a Notification Dot and it will preview the notification, and one can swipe to dismiss, drag down to see the full notification or tap to open the app. Google made it easier to remember your passwords with Autofill framework. This allows users to autofill the user id and passwords, which makes it easier to log in to different apps, while you are setting up a new device.
