Google will release the developer preview this month and not the final build. One has to register to Android Beta Program in order to be eligible for the update.
Earlier this October 4th, Google unveiled its Pixel devices with Android 7.1 Nougat. Now the search engine giant has confirmed that the developer preview for Android 7.1 Nougat will be released for select Nexus devices by the end of this month.
The developer preview will first be released for Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X and Pixel C devices. However, all the Nexus devices which are compatible with Android 7.0 Nougat will receive Android 7.1 update but didn't provide any ETA for other devices. Also, the final build of Android 7.1 will be rolled out for all supported Google devices by the end of this year in December. To detail out, these devices are Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9, Nexus 9 LTE, Nexus Player, Pixel C, and supported Android One devices.
Android 7.1 Nougat brings a bunch of new features including the support for Daydream View VR headset. Other improvements will include, night-light, circular app icons, a manual storage manager, app shortcuts, A/B system updates. Another feature that will be added is the image keyboard which will allow users to send gifs without even copy pasting links. Interestingly, there has been no information if 'Google Assistant' will make way to other Nexus devices or not.
As mentioned before, Google will release the developer preview this month and not the final build. One has to register to Android Beta Program in order to be eligible for the update.
