Google to release Android 7.1 for select Google devices this month

Google will release the developer preview this month and not the final build. One has to register to Android Beta Program in order to be eligible for the update.

Earlier this October 4th, Google unveiled its devices with 7.1 Nougat. Now the search engine giant has confirmed that the developer preview for Android 7.1 Nougat will be released for select Nexus devices by the end of this month.

The developer preview will first be released for Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X and Pixel C devices. However, all the Nexus devices which are compatible with Android 7.0 Nougat will receive Android 7.1 update but didn’t provide any ETA for other devices. Also, the final build of Android 7.1 will be rolled out for all supported Google devices by the end of this year in December. To detail out, these devices are Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9, Nexus 9 LTE, Nexus Player, Pixel C, and supported Android One devices.

Android 7.1 Nougat brings a bunch of new features including the support for Daydream View headset. Other improvements will include, night-light, circular icons, a manual storage manager, app shortcuts, A/B system updates. Another feature that will be added is the image keyboard which will allow users to send gifs without even copy pasting links. Interestingly, there has been no information if ‘Google Assistant’ will make way to other Nexus devices or not.

As mentioned before, Google will release the developer preview this month and not the final build. One has to register to Android Beta Program in order to be eligible for the update.

Google recently released Google Pixel and Pixel XL and both the smartphones will be up for pre-order starting tomorrow with sales beginning from October 20 onward. Both the devices will be sold on Flipkart and offline stores include Croma and Reliance Digital. Google Pixel will start at Rs 57,000 for 32GB variant.
