Earlier this month, Google revealed its Pixel smartphones which are currently available for pre-order in India. The search engine giant has now confirmed that both Pixel and Pixel XL will receive Android OS updates for at least 2 years i.e. 2018.
“Pixel phones get Android version updates for at least 2 years from when the device became available on the Google Store. After 2 years, we can’t guarantee additional updates,” Google said.
Moreover, Google even mentioned that the updates will be released within 2 weeks for the devices which are bought directly from Google store. Whereas, if bought from a carrier store or somewhere else, the update might take more time. However, Verizon who is the official partner for Pixel smartphones in USA confirmed that the Verizon exclusive Pixel smartphones will receive the updates at the same time.
Regarding the security patches, Google said, “Pixel phones get security patches for at least 3 years from when the device first became available, or at least 18 months from when the Google Store last sold the device, whichever is longer,” which means Pixel smartphones will receive security updates up till 2019.
Meanwhile, as per reports, Android Nougat based Google Pixel smartphones will get get an update right out of the box. The update is said to bring ‘improve WiFi connectivity’ with a slightly changes build number NDE63P. Apparently, this news came from Verizon after the US carrier updates its most current software updates website. So, if you bought a Google Pixel device and is ready to un-box it anytime now, you will be prompted with this update.
