Google has announced a new real-time location sharing feature for Google Maps, through which users will be able to share their location with anyone. The feature will be available for both Android and iOS users.
To use this feature, one can open the side menu and tap on “Share location” and then select to whom you want to share the location and for how long. One can share the location with his/her Google contacts or can send a link through one’s favourite messenger apps. In order to know who is seeing your location, one will see an icon above the compass on your own map reminding you that you’re actively sharing your location.
Further, one can also share trip progress from navigation as well. During your next trip, tap the “More” button on the bottom on the navigation screen, and then tap “Share trip.” When you share your trip with people, they’ll see your expected arrival time and can follow your journey as you head towards your destination. Sharing automatically ends when you arrive.
The new feature introduced by the search giant is in a line of making its Maps services more useful. The company has already added a bunch of new features in the past, including a new feature which allows you share your list of favourite places with your friends and foes.
Previously, Google collaborated with Uber to let users find, book and pay for their ride from Google Maps itself. One just needs to enter the destination in Google Maps and tap on the Navigation button (Car Icon) after which go to cab menu (fourth tab from the left) and book from different options available at that moment.
