Chinese handset maker, Gionee has officially launched its flagship smarphone, Gionee S8,and a high-end Clamshell dual screen phone called as Gionee W909 in China today. The Gionee S8 is priced at 2,599 Yuan (approximately Rs 26,600) and the Gionee W909 is priced at 3,999 Yuan (approximately Rs 41,000). The Gionee S8 smartphone was first announced at the MWC 2016 event in Barcelona in February last month. While earlier this month, Gionee W909 was spotted on TENAA revealing its specs.
The Gionee S8 has a 5.5 inch touchscreen that comes with full HD resolution (1920×1080 pixels) and Corning Gorilla Glass 4. It comes with a full metal body and a fingerprint sensor that is embedded in its home button which is located just below the display. The S8 is armed with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. It has the Mediatek Helip P10 chipset that has an octa core processor running at 1.9 GHz. The Gionee S8 comes with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow operating system and has Gionee’s Amigo interface. It includes 16 megapixel rear camera with laser autofocus, and a 8megapixel selfie camera on the front.
The Gionee S8 has a hybrid dual SIM slot in which the second SIM slot can alternatively hold a micro SD card of up to 200 GB capacity. Ofcourse, this dual SIM phone offers 4G connectivity; it is also VoLTE compatible. Besides, the S8 offers WiFi (b/g/n), WiFi Direct, WiFi Hotspot, Bluetooth 4.0 A2DP, GPS with AGPS, FM radio, and a micro USB port with USB Host functionality. There is a 3000 mAh Li-Ion battery in the Gionee S8. It measures 154.3 x 74.9 x 7 mm and weighs 147.2 grams. It also has DTS and HiFi audio technologies.
The Gionee W909 has two identical screens, one inside and another on the front, Both the screens are of 4.2 inch size and have HD (1280 x 720) resolution. This Dual SIM phone has a MediaTek Helio P10 octa-core processor, 4GB RAM, 64GB of internal storage and a 128GB micro SD card slot. The smartphone runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system with Amigo 3.1 UI on top of it and also offers a Fingerprint sensor.
Gionee W909 has a 16-megapixel camera module and an LED flash light on its rear panel, while a 5-megapixel selfie shotter is in its front. The handset measures 124.6 x 62.5 x 16.4mm and weighs around 210 grams. It packs a 2530mAh battery that claims to offer 30 hours of Talk time and upto 408 hours of standby time. Connectivity options of the device includes 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, and USB Type-C port.
As of now, there is no information on when Gionee S8 and Gionee W909 will be made available outside China.
