Samsung Galaxy Grand Max was announced this Monday and has already been listed on Snapdeal for Rs 15,990. Meanwhile, the Asus Zenfone 6 too is available for about the same price, Rs 15,995 to be specific. Let us see how these two match up to each other.
Design
The Samsung Galaxy Grand Max looks like any other Samsung phone, and one will not be able to tell it apart from many others at a distance. That can be a good or a bad thing, depending on your own preference. The Samsung Galaxy Grand Max measures 146 x 74.8 x 7.9 mm and weighs 161 grams.
The Asus Zenfone 6 is a sleek looking device with an interesting finish at the bottom. The bezels are not large, and the rear is a simple affair. In black, the Zenfone 6 looks great. It measures 166.9 x 84.3 x 9.9 mm and weighs 196 grams.
Looks are subjective, but all Samsung phones look 90% alike, and the Asus manages to stand out.
Display
The Asus Zenfone 6 has a 6 inch IPS display with a Resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels, while the Samsung Galaxy Grand Max has a 5.25 inch IPS display with the same resolution.
Both displays are backed by the same technology but due to smaller size, the Grand Max’s display has better pixel density. Also size is another deciding factor here. Bigger might not be better for everyone, so this is down to personal preference.
Processor & Memory
The Samsung Galaxy Grand Max has a quad-core 1.2 GHz Processor with 1.5 GB of RAM. The Internal Memory stands at 16 GB, to which another 64 GB can be added via a microSD card.
The Asus Zenfone 6 has a 2 GHz dual-core processing unit, with 2 GB of RAM. The internal memory stands at 16 GB, and for this version, and an additional 64 GB can be added via a microSD card. Asus also gives a 5 GB lifetime subscription to Asus WebStorage.
Software
The Asus Zenfone 6 has runs on Android KitKat, with Asus’ Zen UI, which adds some interesting features, such as What’s Next, which keeps track of your schedule and helps plan your day. The UI itself is easy on the eyes, and functions well overall. While the Samsung Galaxy Grand Max also runs on Android KitKat, but has Samsung’s TouchWiz UI, which adds many additional features.
Both UIs are very good to use, and there is no difference in the Android version, thus resulting in another draw.
Battery
The Samsung Galaxy Grand Max has a 2500 mAh battery, but unfortunately Samsung has not revealed what kind of talk time or Standby time it offers. The Asus Zenfone 6 on the other hand has a 3300 mAh battery which can provide up to 28 hours of talk time or 398 hours of standby.
Camera
The Asus Zenfone 6 has a 13 Megapixel primary camera, which is equipped with flash, auto-focus, geo-tagging, face detection, panorama, and video recording at 1080p at 30 fps. The front of the Zenfone 6 has a 2 megapixel selfie taker.
The Samsung Galaxy Grand Max too has a 13 megapixel camera with flash, auto-focus, geo-tagging, face detection, panorama, and video recording at 1080p at 30 fps, while the front has a 5 megapixel camera for video calls and selfies.
Figures can be very misleading in the camera department. So we will have to reserve further comment till a real world test of the two devices.
Connectivity
The Samsung Galaxy Grand Max is said to be a 4G phone but the listing on Snapdeal doesn’t confirm the same. Anyway it has 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS. While the Asus Zenfone 6 is a 3G enabled phone with all the regular connectivity options such as GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS.
Wrapping Up
The Asus Zenfone 6 is far more unique and better looking than the Samsung Galaxy Grand Max. However, the phones look equal in many departments like storage, camera, processing power, and to some extent in battery output too. While the Samsung Galaxy Grand Max has a better camera package and connectivity choices.
However, if Samsung Galaxy Grand Max has 4G connectivity then it would definitely be the phone we would recommend over Zenfone 6.
