Face off: Motorola Moto X Play vs Lenovo Vibe S1

Motorola's Moto X Play is a good smartphone but Lenovo Vibe S1 seems to be a better deal.

The Moto X Play is available for Rs 18,499, and it is surely one of the nicer phones available at this price point. Meanwhile, Lenovo earlier this week brought the Vibe S1 at Rs 15,999. Here’s we have compared the two phones on the basis of their features.

Design

The Lenovo Vibe S1 is a great looking phone, with glass on the front and back, with a lovely matt finish metal surround. The phone is a fingerprint magnet, but is one of the best looking phones at this price point. The Lenovo Vibe S1 measures 143. X 70.8 x 7.8 mm and weighs 132 grams.
Moto X Play
The Motorola Moto X Play has a completely different design than any other smartphone. With a lovely half-honeycomb like design, the back panel is surely quite attractive. The rear also has a metallic surround to add rigidity. The front too is nice looking with the prominent speaker and microphone dull aluminium slats at either ends, with very thin bezels. The Motorola Moto X Play measures 148 x 75 x 10.9 mm and weighs 169 grams. It isn’t small and light package, but the since the phone has a curved back panel, it doesn’t feel awkward to hold.

Display

The Motorola Moto X Play has a 5.5 inch full (1080 x 1920) IPS display. The pixel density is superb at 403 ppi. It is protected by 3.

Lenovo Vibe S1 has a 5 inch full HD (1080 x 1920) IPS display. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

This will be a largely personal choice, as some might find 5.5 inches too cumbersome, or on the other hand, some might find 5 inches to be too small for their taste. However, regardless of what protection the display offers, we recommend that you invest in a tempered glass screen protector.

Processor and Memory

The Lenovo Vibe S1 runs an octa-core 1.7 GHz MediaTek MT6752 which runs with 3 of RAM. The stands at 32 GB to which you can add another 128 GB via a card.
Moto X Play
The Motorola Moto X Play is armed with an octa-core Snapdragon 615 which is clocked at 1.7 GHZ. The phone has 2 GB of RAM, and 16 GB of internal storage, to which you can add another 128 GB via a microSD card.

The Lenovo Vibe S1 is the winner in this round thanks to the extra one GB of RAM. However, note that the Lenovo smartphone has a hybrid SIM slot which means you can either opt for a micro SD card or a SIM2. So in terms of memory, Moto X Play certainly has the upper hand.

Software

The Motorola Moto X Play runs Lollipop, with an upgrade to Android M expected for this phone. The Android experience on Motorola phones is very close to the stock experience.

The Lenovo Vibe S1 comes with Android Lollipop, and naturally, has Lenovo’s Vibe UI. We expect that an update to Android M will be available at some point.

Battery

The Lenovo Vibe S1 has a non-removable battery of 2500 mAh. It is claimed to provide a standby of 264 hours. The Motorola Moto X Play too has a non-removable battery, but a bigger 3630 and it managed to sail through the day even on heavy usage.

Camera

Lenovo Vibe S1 has a 13 primary camera, with phase detection auto-focus, flash, face detection, panorama, HDR, geo-tagging, and video recording. The front has a unique 8 + 2 megapixel dual-camera setup for video calling and selfie taking, etc. The dual cameras will allow you to make many edits to your selfies after capturing them

The Motorola Moto X Play is armed with a 21 megapixel unit with an of f/2.0, auto-focus, flash, HDR, panorama, and video recording at 1080p at 30 fps. For selfies, it offers a 5 megapixel front camera.

If you are selfie obsessed, then the Lenovo Vibe S1 is your best bet, else the Motorola Moto X Play should be your choice.

Connectivity

The Lenovo Vibe S1 is a device, equipped with 4G, GPS (A-GPS), 4.0, and WiFi.

The Motorola Moto X Play too is a dual-SIM device with 4G, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS (A-GPS and GLONASS), WiFi, and NFC.

Wrapping Up

For about Rs 2,500 less, the Lenovo Vibe S1 offers a slimmer and nicer looking design with extra one GB RAM. Of course, if the primary camera is a major concern for you, then the Moto X Play is the one to go for, but in other areas Lenovo Vibe S1 looks a better bet.
