Micromax earlier this week launched a budget camea smartphone, Micromax Canvas Selfie 2 for Rs 5,999.Micromax Canvas Selfie 2 will be available across all the online and offline stories from August 22. Lava meanwhile came out with its Iris Atom 2 for Rs 4,949. Lava Iris Atom 2 is already available from online and offline stores.

Design & Display
Micromax Canvas Selfie 2 has a leather like finish and is equipped with a 5-inch IPS display that offers 480 x 854 pixels resolution. While on the other hand Lava Iris Atom 2 comes with a 4.5 inch screen but with same 480 x 854 pixels resolution. So if you want a big screen phone you can go for Micromax otherwise for people with small hands, the Lava Iris Atom 2 would be an ideal choice.
Processor & Memory
Both the smartphones are powered by a 1.3 GHz quad core processor. However, Micromax Canvas Selfie 2 has 1 GB RAM against 512 MB RAM of Lava Iris Atom 2. Needless to say, the Micromax smartphone will give better performance than Atom 2.
However, both phones have 8GB internal storage as well as a 32 GB expandable storage slot.
Battery
Micromax Canvas Selfie 2 is backed up by a 2000 mAh Li-Ion battery which claims to offer 7 hours of talktime and 313 hours of standby.
The Lava Iris Atom 2 has a 1750 mAh Li-ion battery. Lava has not though revealed its output. Note that the Lava handset has a smaller display and would consume less power. So more or less both the phones are expected to offer similar back up in real life usage.
Camera
Micromax Canvas Selfie 2 offers a 5 Megapixel fixed focus front camera and a 5 megapixel auto focus rear camera with LED Flash. It comes with the Face Beauty mode which lets the users balance facial features, soften complexions and remove skin blemishes in real time. Lava Iris Atom 2 offers a 5 megapixel rear camera with LED Flash and a VGA front camera. Here, Lava Iris Atom 2 is a big disappointment for selfie lovers as it has only a VGA front camera.
Software
Operating sytem wise also, Micromax Canvas Selfie 2 emerges as the winner as it runs on the latest Android Lollipop 5.0 operating system while Lava Iris Atom 2 is based on Android 4.4 KitKat operating system. However, Lava says it will release the Android Lollipop update for Iris Atom 2 soon.
Connectivity
In the connectivity section, the Micromax Canvas Selfie 2 offers Dual-SIM , Bluetooth, WiFi, USB 2.0, GPS, and Bluetooth options. Lava Iris Atom 2 also posses same connectivity options like a dual-SIM with Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, WiFi.
There isn’t much to separate these two in this round as they are akin to each other.
Wrapping up
As compared to Lava Iris Atom 2, the Micromax Canvas Selfie 2 certainly looks good with its latest operating system, bigger battery, higher RAM, and much better camera in terms of resolution. Micromax Canvas Selfie 2 may be Rs 1,000 costlier than Lava Iris Atom 2 but it beats the Lava Iris Atom 2 hands down on several counts and thus worth the extra bucks.
