Corrupted Apple apps

Several applications have been found to have stopped working after being downloaded from the Apple iTunes store, even though developers say they were working perfectly.

Apple has always been criticized by developers globally because it rejects a large number of applications. But now developers are also accusing Apple of corrupting their applications. Instapaper’s developer Marco Arment has filed a blog post saying that after he downloaded his application’s latest upgrade from Apple’s store the application crashed, even while the application was working perfectly when it was submitted. There is no denying the fact that the application was working since Apple approved it and made it available for download as well.

As per Marco’s post on the blog, “Last night, within minutes of Apple approving the Instapaper 4.2.3 update, I was deluged by support email and Twitter messages from customers saying that it crashed immediately on launch, even with a clean install. This didn’t make sense – obviously, Apple had reviewed it, and it worked for them. My submitted archive from Xcode worked perfectly. But every time I downloaded the update from the Store, clean or not, it crashed instantly.”

And this is not a one off case. Along with Instapaper many other applications have also been reported to have crashed after they were downloaded from the iTunes store. Angry Birds Space Free, Flick Soccer, iBike Moto, Pinball Maniacs. Stack the States, Threadnote, Metronome+ and Phoster are just a few of the applications that have been crashing.

While Apple is not commenting on the situation, the developer Marco Arment is advising fellow developers not to upload new applications and give Apple time to figure out and solve this problem.

Till the issue is resolved users must also resist updating their applications as this might leave the application useless.
