Steve Cistulli, President and General Manager for TCL Communication, yesterday tweeted a four-second video teaser, which gave us a glimpse of the upcoming BlackBerry Mercury or DTEK70. Today, Cistulli has released another short video that gives a fair sneak peek of the device. The company will hold a press conference on January 4 (today) where it is expected to announce the much-rumored BlackBerry Mercury.
The video teaser shows the metal frame and the base of the device which seems to house a USB Type-C port flanked between two speaker grilles. To remind you, BlackBerry has entered into a licensing deal with TCL in December 2016 to design, manufacture and sell BlackBerry-branded devices.
In another news, a fresh set of renders of the upcoming device has been leaked online. As spotted by Android Pure, a user on the Chinese website, Weibo, has posted the images, which are believed to be press renders of the BlackBerry DTEK70 aka Mercury, gives a glimpse of the upcoming device from the front and the back. The leaked images show that device will come in black colour. At the front, you will see a screen coupled with a physical keyboard situated at the lower part. The keyboard seems to be similar to the one teased by a TCL executive recently. The volume rocker is placed on the right with a button sitting right beneath it, while at the left there is another button. Judging by the previous model, it is safe to say that one of them might be a power on/off button, while the other will be ‘Convenience key’, which acts as a shortcut key to launch any app you want.
What makes the renders special is the fact that, for the first time, we are seeing the rear panel of the device. At the back, you will notice that there is a big-rear camera module on the top left, while the BlackBerry logo sits in the middle.
As for the specs are concerns, we had reported earlier that the smartphone will sport a 4.5-inch display with 3:2 ratio with the QWERTY keypad. The device will be powered by a 2.02 GHz Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor, Adreno 506 GPU, 3GB of RAM, and 32 GB of Internal storage. It will run on latest Android 7.0 Nougat operating system.
For the optics, as per the recent leaks, the Blackberry Mercury is expected to come with a 12-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera for selfies and video chats. Besides, the smartphone will offer WiFi, GPS, NFC, Proximity, Accelerometer, Barometer, Gyroscope, Pedometer, and light sensor. Recollecting the Geekbench scores, the Mercury scored 913 points in the single-core test and 5047 points in the multi-core.
