For Huawei, it is going to be a tough time to sell its products including smartphones, laptops and smartwatches in the US. Best Buy, the nation’s largest electronics retailer, is reportedly going to stop selling Huawei products in the US.
According to a report by CNET, the retailer has ceased to order new smartphones Huawei and it will stop selling its products over the next few weeks. Best Buy will also stop selling Huawei’s laptop and smartwatches, a move that will bring a huge setback for the Chinese company, which is eyeing the US market for a long time. “We don’t comment on specific contracts with vendors, and we make decisions to change what we sell for a variety of reasons,” said a Best Buy spokesperson told the publication.
Huawei is facing an uphill battle in the US to sell its products. In the recent past, multiple US carriers including AT&T and Verizon refused to sell the company’s smartphones due to pressure from the US government. The brand sells its unlocked smartphones through big retailers like Best Buy, Amazon. Losing Best Buy will prove to be a major blow for the Chinese company. This will also impact Huawei on the global scale as well.
The pressure from the US government is following the security concerns and the fact that the FBI, CIA and NSA all have recommended against using the smartphones from companies like Huawei and ZTE. The government is currently working on a new bill to ban government agencies from using Huawei and ZTE smartphones.
