Android 4.1 may come to Intel Atom smartphones

Intel Atom based smartphones can also now expect to get the Android Jelly Bean 4.1 upgrade

Intel has successfully ported the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system to its low-power Atom chips codenamed Medfield. This chip maker announced this at the Intel Developer Forum that took place in San Francisco earlier this week. This means that smartphones with Atom chips can now hope to get the latest Android operating system.

Intel’s vice president and general manager for mobile computing, Mike Bell, said that he and several other employees have also been running the newly ported Android Jelly Bean operating system on their smartphones and till now things have been looking good.

Following this, Intel will also be providing the new operating system to its device partners including Lava and Lenovo. This is a great news for all the Xolo smartphone owners who can now expect to have the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on their devices.

Intel devices till now have been shipping with older Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system but now with availability and access to the new operating system, newer devices will soon start featuring the Android 4.1.

With Motorola and Intel on the verge of their biggest announcement for the launch of Motorola’s first Intel Atom, Medfield processor based device the availability of new operating system will definitely change the thing for good.

Intel has a dual-core Medfield chip coming out later this year and smartphones based on the chip will be out early next year only. Intel next year will also release an integrated chip made using the 22-nanometer process for low-end smartphones for which the details will only be released at a later point of time.
