Acer announces Intel powered Liquid C1 Android smartphone

The mid-range Android smartphone is based on Intel's recently launched Z2420 chipset.

Following the lines of Lava, Lenovo and Motorola, Acer has now announced its first ever Intel powered smartphone.

The smartphone, named as Acer Liquid C1, is based on Intel’s recently launched Z2420 chipset, codenamed Lexington, which was unveiled last month during the Consumer Electronics show. Despite being on the latest Intel Platform, the Acer Liquid C1 is a mid-range proposition with its price expected to be around Rs 19,000.

The Acer Liquid C1 is based on a single core running at 1.2 GHz and is primarily aimed at emerging markets. It will have a 4.3 inch IPS display in front with qHD (960 x 540 pixels).

The device is powered by Google Android Ice Cream sandwich operating system but Jelly Bean upgrade is expected to be issued for it in the future.

The Acer Liquid C1 has an 8 camera at the back that comes with 1080p video recording capability in 30 frames per second. Users of the smartphone could also access Acer’s own facility, called ‘Acer Cloud’.

The device is expected to be launched this month itself in Thailand following which the device is expected to make its way to other countries as well.

Lava’s Xolo A800 was first ever Android smartphone to have an Intel chipset. Later, the home grown Lava had launched another handset -the Xolo X900 – with Intel Atom chipset. Lenovo K800 and Motorola X are two other smartphones which are based on Intel processor – both the smartphones have been announced but are yet to hit the market. Note that Motorola has exited the Indian market so there is no chance for it to launch its Intel smartphone in the country.
