0

Polaroid, the international brand associated with cameras and eyewear, is set to launch an tablet during the Consumer Electronics Show 2012 which is to be held from January 10-13 in Las Vegas, USA.

The tablet, whose announcement is still awaited from Polaroid, will be based on Android operating system with a powerful camera as it comes from a company with years of experience in making professional cameras. Engadget, who reported this, claims that the company is projecting the product as a tablet plus camera. If all goes well we will see the making of a new tablet which will have a powerful camera, which most tablets today lack.

The specifications of the tablet are still awaited but from the images that have surfaced, the tablet seems to be featuring a 7 inch display along with a frontal as well as a powerful rear snapper. There is not much information on the but this Polaroid tablet seems to have an Android v 2.3 Gingerbread operating system.

The tablet is also expected to be lightweight and user friendly, which will make it possible for the user to hold the device for longer times, making it an ideal e-book reader.

However, the Android application store seems to be missing and we hope that’s not the case. If the tablet is not capable of installing application directly from the Android Market, it will be a huge turn off for most.

We all love games and more than games we love commenting on them. So be it commenting about a players’ performance or the way he tackles a particular shot, we simply want to express ourselves. But if nobody is there to listen to or reply to your comment, then it becomes useless to opine at the first place.

In such a scenario, we all miss an application like PlayUp, which joins like-minded individuals from all across the globe and gives them the much needed opportunity to share their thoughts while the game is on or even when not.

PlayUp, available for operating based devices, is based on a very simple principle of communication and that is what it does wonderfully. It allows people to communicate with other when you dearly need an opportunity to do that.

The user interface of this application is very simple and easy to use. User need to have a working internet connection on their iOS based devices to start talking.

The games are segregated on the basis of timing. The PlayUp application hosts a large variety of games including Hockey, Football, Cricket and tennis to name a few. There are no automobile based gaming action on PlayUp which we feel is bit of a let down especially considering millions of MotoGP and F1 fans around the globe.

Set up complaint centres within 45 days: TRAI tells telecos

0

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has mandated all operators to set up a complaint centre in the next 45 days. In this regard, the telecom regulator has also issued directives under ‘Telecom Consumers Complaint Regulations, 2012’.

The centres will handle all consumer complaints and service requests. The centres need to be accessible on all working days through a toll free number between 8 am to 12 midnight. It should also be accessible through all operator networks, according to TRAI’s directives.

The operators who have already setup call centres based on regulations issued by TRAI in 2007 (which all of them have), will only have to comply with certain changes in the regulation like setting up a web-based complaint monitoring system, through which the consumer can track their complaints.

Recently operators have started charging for calls made to their call centres, and this at times deterred consumers from calling these numbers. This new regulation will put an end to that confusion.

TRAI has also mandated that there will only be a tree layer IVR (Interactive voice response) system and in the third layer it is mandatory to have an option of talking to customer care agent. Earlier some operators used very complex IVR systems with option to talking to agent hidden in the maze of options.

A two-tier system will replace the existing three-tier complaint redressal mechanism – now comprising call centre, nodal centre and appellate authority – by doing away with the nodal officer.

Every complaint at the centre will be registered by giving a unique docket number, which will remain in the system for at least three months. The docket number, along with the date and time of registration and the time limit for of the complaint, would be communicated to the consumer through SMS, which is the same as the current practice.

The service provider will set up a two-member advisory committee in each of the service areas. It will comprise a member from the consumer organisation registered with TRAI, and another member from the service provider.

Samsung to beef up apps for Bada platform

0

To boost the appeal of its Bada operating system, smartphone manufacturer Samsung has now allowed developers to port or transform existing popular applications based on Apple iOS, Nokia Symbian and Google platforms to Bada. In this regard, Samsung has release detailed help topics and tools for the Bada based developers as well.

Bada, the smartphone operating system of Samsung, has been quite successful since its launch in 2010. Last year, Samsung released an improved Bada 2.0 operating system, offering better features and bringing in more number of applications to the platform. The recent move will further enhance the application catalogue of the platform, thus increasing its popularity.

Porting of applications is easier in comparison to developing applications from the scratch as developers just need to use elements of the exiting application and structure them according to the requirements of the new platform. Therefore, users get more applications that include exiting popular titles as well.

Bada 2.0 brings together a wide variety of new capabilities which were missing from the earlier including multi-tasking, WiFi Direct, Near Field Communication (NFC) and voice recognition. It enables smartphone users to experience advanced services such as mobile payment, transport pass-card recharge and file sharing without Internet networking. In addition, considering the increased use of web using smartphones, Bada 2.0 supports HTML5 and improved Flash functions thus offering enhanced usability and web experience

Now with Samsung allowing developers to port their existing application for their Bada operating system, developers from Android, and even Symbian can easily develop applications for the platform. The ultimate winner in this is the customer and with this the Bada application store will surely get a large number of applications consisting of all popular titles as well.
