Indian handset marketer, Xolo is planning to launch a co-branded smartphone in partnership with Liverpool FC, an English Premier League football club.
Sunil Raina, head, Xolo Mobiles, during the signing of partnership with Liverpool FC as their regional partner in India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal, said, “As a way forward we will launch a smartphone which will have exclusive Liverpool FC-based content. Sunil didn’t elaborate on timeline for the launch of co-branded phone but it is expected to be in the works.”
Under the partnership Xolo will offer exclusive Liverpool FC merchandise and rich content on their mobile phones. Besides, Xolo will also give its users a chance to meet various Liverpool FC players and legends.
This move by Xolo can be termed as way to give itself a boost and be seen as an international brand. Sometime back even Micromax had roped in popular Hollywood star Hugh Jackman as a brand ambassador to give its Canvas series of smartphones an international touch.
Also, this is not for the first time that a handset brand in tying up with a football club. Way back in 2012, Nokia India has partnered with Spanish football club FC Barcelona (FCB). Under the partnership Nokia had picked up 11 consumers who traveled to Barcelona to meet FCB players.
