Xiaomi releases Android 7.1 update for Mi 5C

Xiaomi Mi 5c is the first smartphone powered by Xiaomi's in-house Surge S1 processor.

Xiaomi had recently launched Xiaomi Mi 5C with Marshmallow operating system in China priced at 1499 Yuan (US$ 218) or approximately Rs 14,567. Now just after one month of its launch, Xiaomi has started rolling out Android 7.1 Nougat update to the smartphone. It is also to be noted that at the launch time, the company announced that the Xioami Mi 5C is upgradable to Android 7.1 Nougat-based MIUI 8 update in March. And now before the end of the month, the company has kept its promise.

Xioami has revealed about the Nougat update on Chinese micro blogging website, Weibo. The update is rolled out over the air to the Mi 5C smartphones running the MIUI 8 developer ROM. The smartphone comes with the MIUI 8 Stable by default and so will not get this update. Users will have to download the Developer ROM from the MIUI Forum and then become eligible for the new rolled out Android 7.1 update. Developer ROMs are usually updated every week while the Stable ROM are updated in longer times which might be one month, two months or even more.

Xiaomi Mi 5c is the first smartphone powered by Xiaomi’s in-house Surge S1 processor. Xiaomi Mi 5C has a 5.15-inch full (1920 x 1080 pixels) curved glass display powered by 2.2GHz Xiaomi Surge S1 64-bit Octa-Core with quad-core Mali-T860 GPU. It comes with 3GB with 64GB of internal storage, which is further expected to be expandable via a micro card.

This dual smartphone runs on Android Nougat operating system. It has 2860 battery which supports 9V/2A promising full day battery life. It has a full metal unibody design and features a fingerprint sensor integrated into its home button.

The Xiaomi Mi 5C comes with a 12-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, 1.25 μm pixel size, f/2.2 aperture, 6P lens 27-mm wide angle lens and an 8-megapixel front camera with f/2.0 aperture, 27 mm wide-angle lens. On the connectivity front, the device offers VoLTE, 4.1, WiFi (802.11 b/g/n), with AGS/GLONASS, 3.5mm audio jack, FM radio and Type C. The handset measures 144.38 x 69.68 x 7.09 mm and weighs 135 grams.
