Uninor GSM service launched in 7 circles

The network will cover a national footprint of close to 600 million. Call rates have been fixed at 29 paise per minute.

Uninor, the GSM mobile service brand of Unitech Wireless and the joint venture company of Unitech Ltd and the Telenor Group of Norway, announced the launch of its GSM service in India on Thursday.
The launch will happen simultaneously in seven circles. These are Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh (UP) East, UP West and Bihar (including Jharkhand). In terms of GSM footprint, the operator claims that this is the largest launch operation in India. The network will cover a national footprint of close to 600 million, providing a global connection and pan India coverage.
The company will be carrying out a campaign under the tagline “Ab mera number hai” and “My time is now”. Uninor will not employ big celebrity brand ambassadors.
Uninor will be retailed at over 210,000 points of sale through close to 1000 exclusive distributors in the 7 circles. Uninor will have two price plans – a base plan called talkmore@29p and a subscription plan called callmore@29p.
