Sony rolls out Android 8.0 Oreo update for Xperia X and X Compact

Both the smartphones were originally launched in the 2016 year with Android 6.0 Marshmallow and later updated to Nougat.

Sony has started rolling out Android 8.0 Oreo update for its Sony Xperia X and X Compact smartphones. Sony Xperia X and X Compact were originally announced back in Mobile World Congress and IFA events in 2016 with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow operating system. Later, the phones received Android 7.1.1 Nougat last year. Earlier, Sony has also rolled out Oreo update for Xperia XZ, XZs and X Performance smartphones.

According to a report by The Xperia Blog, the over-the-air (OTA) update will move you from build number 34.3.A.0.252 to version 34.4.A.0.364 and it weighs 1.2GB. Users can go to Settings> About Phone, to check for the latest update.

The report does not share full change-log after the update, but it is expected to bring smart text selection that contextually recognizes and suggests useful options based on a selected text. There will also be redesigned shortcuts which allow easy access to actions menus by long pressing the app icon. Apart from this, users will get the goodness of Android Oreo.

After the update, the smartphones will have picture-in-picture mode that lets users to two tasks simultaneously. So, for example, one can minimize a YouTube video while sending a text message or writing an email. Android Oreo has other features like including Background limits, installation of apps via APK, over 60 new emojis, notification dots, Wide-gamut colour for apps, Snoozing individual notification, Adaptive icons, Keyboard navigation, WebView enhancements and much more.

As far as specifications are concerned, the Sony Xperia X has a 5-inch Triluminous display featuring full resolution. With a 2620 mAh battery, this 1.8 MHz hexa-core Snapdragon 650 processor based handset promises up to two days of battery backup. It has 3GB of RAM that now runs on Android Oreo operating system. The Dual SIM Sony Xperia X has 64 of internal storage that can be increased up to 200 GB through a micro card.

But the highlight of Sony Xperia X is its cameras – it has a 23-megapixel rear camera that has 1/2.3” Exmor RS for mobile sensor, Predictive Hybrid AF, Quick launch, 5x Clear Image Zoom, 24mm Wide Angle G Lens and F2.0 aperture. It’s front 13-megapixel front camera has 1/3” Exmor RS for mobile sensor, Quick launch, 22mm Wide Angle Lens and F2.0 aperture. Besides, the smartphone offers Dual SIM, LTE, 4.2, GPS, NFC, WiFi. The handset measures 143 mm x 69 mm x 7.7 mm.

Sony Xperia X Compact comes with 4.6-inch HD Triluminos display with protection with resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. It is powered by a hexa-core Snapdragon 650 64 bit processor, Adreno 510 and 3GB of RAM. It has 32GB of internal storage as well as a 256 GB micro SD card slot. It now runs on Android 8.0 Oreo operating system and is backed up by a 2,700 mAh battery. It too comes with Qnovo’s Adaptive Charging technology for faster charging.

The Sony Xperia X Compact has a 23-megapixel rear camera with Exmos RS sensor, 1/2.3″ sensor, f/2.0 lens, Predictive Hybrid AF, 5-axis stabilization and 1080p video recording ability. Its 5-megapixel front-facing camera has 1/3.06″ Exmor RS sensor, 22mm f/2.0 lens and 1080p video recording ability. This 4G smartphone also houses a fingerprint sensor and comes will connectivity functions like 4G LTE, GPS/ GLONASS, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n, a Type C and Bluetooth 4.2. The Sony Xperia X Compact measures 129 x 65 x 9.5 mm and weighs 135 grams.
