Smartphones launched this week

A couple of high end smartphones launched in international markets this week along with some budget phones.

Body: Not every week we see so many high-end phones but this was one of the few such weeks. The high-end phones came from Huawei and Lenovo. As usual, LYF and Lava increased their portfolios with some affordable handsets. Here is a recap of phones launched this week international markets as well as in India.

Huawei Mate 9

Huawei has launched its much-anticipated smartphone this week, the Huawei Mate 9. It is priced at 699 Euros a(Rs. 51605 approx.) and will roll out in China, Malaysia, France, Poland, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Italy, Spain, Japan, Thailand, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates. Huawei also introduced Mate 9 Porsche Design along with Mate 9 which comes with a price tag of €1345 (approx. Rs 99,500).

Huawei Mate 9 comes with a huge 5.9 inch Full HD 1920 x 1080 display. The Mate 9 sports a 2.4 GHz Octa-Core Kirin 960 processor with Mali-G71 MP8 for graphics and gaming. The device comes with 64 GB internal storage which is expandable up to 256GB irrespective of whether it is a Dual SIM device or not. In other words, if it’s a Single SIM device then it will come with a dedicated microSD card otherwise a hybrid Dual SIM slot.

Mate 9 comes with dual-camera set up one being a 12-megapixel sensor and the other one being a 20-megapixel sensor with f/2.2 aperture, OIS, 2x zoom, Leica optics, phase detection & laser autofocus, dual-LED (dual tone) Flash. At the front, there is an 8-megapixel shooter with f/1.9 and 1080p video recording capabilities.

Huawei has given a 4000 mAh battery which is non-removable but given it sports a 1080p screen, battery life shouldn’t be an issue on this device. The device comes running on 7.0 Nougat out of the box with EMUI 5.0 on top. Connectivity options such as Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS, NFC etc are there with USB connector which supports quick charging.

The Porsche Design variant shares a lot of internals with the regular Mate 9 except that it comes with a 5.5 inch Quad HD which is curved around the edges. Due to the smaller display, Huawei managed to put a Home button on the front which doubles up as the fingerprint reader. Lastly, the Porsche Design comes with a whopping 6GB RAM.

Samsung W2017

Samsung also unveiled its new Android-powered smartphone in China this week. It is expected to come with hefty price tag of around CNY 20,000, which is approximately Rs 1,97,298. Samsung W2017 has a metal unibody design and feature a 4.2-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) Super AMOLED internal and external display. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, which is paired with 4GB of RAM. The smartphone comes with 64GB of internal storage, which can be further expandable up to 256GB via microSD card. The smartphone runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow operating system. It is backed up by a smaller 2,300mAh battery which supports fast and wireless charging.

On its camera front, Samsung W2017 flip phone has a 12-megapixel primary shooter with f/1.9 apertures and video recording. On its front, it has 5-megapixel front-facing camera for selfies. The smartphone also house a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and has an Always On Display feature. Besides, this dual-SIM filp phone offers Samsung Pay, connectivity and comes with all basic connectivity functions. The handset measures 127.8 x 61.4 x 15.8mm and weighs 208 grams.

Meizu Pro 6s

Meizu Pro 6s smartphone was also made official in China this week. The Meizu Pro 6s is priced at 2699 Yuan (approximately Rs 26,618) and will be made available from November 7th onwards. The smartphone comes in Moonlight Silver, Rose Gold, Black Star, and Champagne Gold colour options.

The Meizu Pro 6s comes with 5.2-inch full HD (1920×1080 pixels) AMOLED display. It is powered by a MediaTek MT6797T Helio X25 deca-core processor clocked at 2.5GHz, which is paired with MAli-T880 GPU. It comes with 4GB RAM, and 64GB of internal storage. The Meizu Pro 6s runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow operating system and is backed up by a 3060mAh non-removable battery with mCharge 3.0 via a 24W charger.

On the camera front, the Meizu Pro 6s offers a 12-megapixel shooter with Sony IMX386 Senosr, 10-LED dual-tone ring flash, OIS and PDAF on its back. For selfies and video chats, it has 5-megapixel front-facing camera with f/2.0 aperture. The smartphone also houses a mTouch Fingerprint scanner, which is integrated on its home button and has USB Type-C port as well. Besides, the Meizu Pro 6s offers 4G with VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, and Cirrus Logic CS43L36 chip for Hi-Fi audio output. The handset measures 147.7 x 70.8 x 7.3mm and weighs 163 grams.

Oppo A39

Oppo launched its latest smartphone this week in Taiwan, which is named the Oppo A39. The smartphone is priced at 7490 New Taiwan Dollars, which is approximately Rs 15,857. The smartphone comes in Gold and Rose gold colour options.

The smartphone has a decent 2900mAh battery as its powerplant. Besides, the smartphone offers Dual SIM, 4G with VoLTE, Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n), Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, a microUSB port, Light sensor, Proximity sensor, Gravity sensor, and Electronic compass. The handset measures 149.1×72.9×7.65 mm and weighs 147 grams.

Alcatel Idol 4S

Alcatel announced the launch of its enabled Windows 10 smartphone, which is named as Idol 4S. The smartphone is priced at $469.99 (approximately Rs 31,388) and will be available at T-Mobile stores nationwide from November 10 onwards. The Alcatel Idol 4S comes bundled with VR headset and is the first Windows smartphone to support VR headset.

The Idol 4S flaunts a 21-megapixel rear camera with Sony IMX230 sensor, Dual LED flash and an 8-megapixel front camera with 84-degree wide angle lens, Single LED flash for selfies and video chats. The smartphone gets its strength from the 3000mAh battery, which claims to deliver up to 20 hours of talk time. Moreover, the device comes with USB Type-C port and also has Dual 1.2W multi-directional speaker. Besides, the smartphone offers Dual SIM, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi (802.11 a/b/g/n/ac), NFC, Bluetooth 4.1, and GPS. The handset measures 153.9×75.4×6.99 mm and weighs 152 grams.

Lenovo Phab 2 Pro

Lenovo Phab 2 Pro was finally made official this week. It is now available for purchase at a price of $499.99. Lenovo Phab 2 Pro has four cameras that include three rear cameras – a 16-megapixel primary camera, a depth camera and a motion tracking camera – while an 8-megapixel camera is in its front. The motion tracking and the depth-sensing cameras allow the phone to recognise area and the user in real time to convert the whole world around a user into augmented reality. The phone can sense physical spaces and structures in 3D making augmented reality (AR) experiences possible.

The Lenovo Phab 2 Pro features a 6.4-inch quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixel) 2.5D curved glass display and is powered by a 1.8 GHz octa-core Snapdragon 652 processor, which is paired with 4GB of RAM and Adreno 510 GPU. The Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system based Lenovo Phab 2 Pro has a 4,050 mAh battery with fast charging technology. It sports Dolby AudioCapture 5.1 with Dolby Atmos playback. Lenovo has also announced a special store and that the device will come with 25 preloaded apps at the beginning and promises 100 apps to be by the end of this year. The Lenovo Phab 2 Pro comes in Champagne Gold and Gunmetal Grey colour variants.

The Lenovo Phab 2 Pro has 64GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded by up to 128GB via a micro SD card. Connectivity option includes hybrid dual SIM, 4G LTE, Bluetooth, WiFi, and GPS. The handset measures 179.8 x 88.57 x 6.98-10.7mm and weighs 259 grams. The Lenovo Phab 2 Pro features a full metal body and offers a fingerprint sensor, which is located on its back panel.

Meizu M5

Meizu M5 smartphone was launched in China earlier this week. The smartphone comes in two variants- 2GB with 16 GB of internal storage, which is priced at 699 Yuan (approximately Rs 6,891), and the 3GB of RAM with 32GB of internal storage costs 899 Yuan (approximately Rs 8,863). Meizu M5 comes in matte black, mint green, champagne gold and blue colour options.

It comes equipped with an octa-core MediaTek MT6750 processor with a clock speed of 1.5GHz, along with Mali T860 GPU. The smartphone also houses an mTouch fingerprint scanner, which is embedded in its home button. The mTouch tech allows you to unlock the smartphone with your fingerprint in just 0.2 seconds. The M5 comes with an option to expand storage up to 128GB via MicroSD card. The device runs on older Android 5.1.1 with YunOS on top of it.

The M5 gets is strength from a large 3070mAh battery, which claims to deliver 66 hours of continuous music playback. The smartphone flaunts a 13-megapixel primary camera with dual-color flash and aperture f/2.2. On its front, it has a 5-megapixel shooter for selfies and video chats. Besides, the M5 offers Hybrid dual-SIM with dual-standby, 4G VoLTE, WiFi (802.11 a/b/g/n), Bluetooth 4.0, GPS/GLONASS, and a microUSB port The handset measures 147.28×72.8×8.15 and weighs 138 grams.

Vobizen Wise 5

An Indian based company Vobizen Mobile launched another cheap Android Smartphone, Vobizen Wise 5 priced at Rs 499. Vobizen Mobiles is a Coimbatore based company and Vobizen Wise 5 smartphone is being sold by its exclusive online seller Unikoid Electronics Ltd. The smartphone is available in Grey, Yellow, White colours.

Lava announced its new voice calling tablet, which is named as Lava Ivory Pop. The tablet is priced at Rs 6,299 and will be available across all retail stores, multi-brand outlets and online platforms.

Intex launched Intex Aqua Power M earlier this week. The smartphone is priced at Rs 4,800 and comes in Champagne colour. The Intex Aqua Power M features a 5-inch display with a resolution of 720×1280 pixels. It is armed with a 1.3 GHz quad-core MediaTek (MT6580) processor, which is clubbed with Mali-400 GPU, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of internal storage which is expandable to up to 32GB via a micro SD card. The smartphone runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system.

LYF also launched its another smartphone in the Water series called Water 9. The Android smartphone has been listed on LYF website for Rs 8,699 in Gold colour.

iBall Slide Brace-X1 4G

Indian mobile phone and tablet maker, iBall launched a new tablet under Slide series, iBall Slide Brace-X1 4G, priced at Rs 16,999. The iBall Slide Brace-X1 4G comes in Bronze Gold colour and is available on e-commerce portal Amazon for purchase.
