Nokia 2 receives Android 8.1 Oreo Update via Nokia Beta Labs

Nokia 2 was launched in India last year running on Android 7.1.1 Nougat, with a stock Android experience. The smartphone comes with a price tag of Rs 6,999 and it is available in three colour options including Pewter/Black, Pewter/White and Copper/Black.

HMD Global launched the Nokia 2 budget smartphone in India last year in November. In December, the company announced Nokia 2 will be updated directly to Android 8.1 Oreo. Now HMD Global has rolled out the Android 8.1 Oreo update through Nokia Phones Beta Labs program.

Juho Sarvikas, Chief Officer at HMD Global, confirmed this news on Twitter. He tweeted, “New on #Nokiamobile Beta Labs! #Nokia2 joins the #AndroidOreo party. Join us now #nokiamobilebetalabs to be the first to the test it! https://nokia.com/phones/betalabs”. This means it will skip the 8.0 Oreo version of the operating system.

Being a beta program, the software is not yet fully optimized for the device and users may experience some bugs until a stable version is released. If you want to get the new Android 8.1 Oreo beta for the Nokia 2 smartphone, you can visit the Nokia Beta Labs page and register yourself for the beta update. Once you register, you will get the notification to download and install the Beta version of the Android 8.1 Oreo.

The fact why HMD Global will update the Nokia 2 to the latest Android 8.1 Oreo is the fact that it comes with Android Go memory management and features that will help Nokia 2 to run faster on the latest Android version. To recall, Google announced Android Oreo (Go Edition) at Google For India event in December this year.
