Jio users on existing prepaid plans can continue enjoying free off-net calls

Reliance Jio account said users can continue enjoying free calls “even to non-Jio numbers” if it was recharged on or before October 9. Free calls will then last till the plan runs out of validity.

Earlier this week, Reliance Jio announced that it will start charging 6 paise per minute for outgoing calls to other networks. The company has now disclosed that users can continue enjoying outgoing calls to other networks for free, provided they recharged their number with a plan on or before October 9.

The news was announced through a tweet by the official Reliance Jio account saying users can continue enjoying free calls “even to non-Jio numbers” if it was recharged on or before October 9. Free calls will then last till the plan runs out of validity.

In case the recharge was done after October 9, users will need to buy IUC top-up vouchers to make free outgoing calls for a limited period with additional data. For now, there are four IUC Vouchers available for Rs 10, Rs 20, Rs 50 and Rs 100.

Jio’s cheapest Rs 10 IUC voucher offers 124 minutes of outgoing voice calls to other networks and 1GB of data The Rs 20 IUC voucher gives users with 249 minutes of off-net outgoing calls and 2GB data. The Rs 50 IUC voucher brings 656 minutes of outgoing voice calls to other networks and 5GB data. The Rs 100 IUC voucher offers 1,362 minutes of non-Jio outgoing calls and 10GB data.

For users on postpaid plans, 6 paise will be billed every minute for outgoing calls to other networks. Similar to that of prepaid users, postpaid customers will also be entitled to additional data.

At the time of levying charges to users for off-net calls, Jio said it’s hopeful that Interconnect Usage Charges will come down to zero. The company says this will be a temporary change that is set to end by December 31, 2019, soon after which IUC charges will be done away with.
