Huawei has sent out the media invites for the launch of its upcoming device in a launch event on September 1 which is to be held one day before IFA 2016. The IFA will be held this year in Berlin from September 2 to September 7.
Huawei unveiled Mate 7 in September IFA 2014, and the Mate S in IFA 2015. It is expected for the company to announce a new Mate smartphone this year, probably Mate 9 as Mate 8 was announced after some months of announcement of Mate S.
A new Huawei smartphone with model No eH880 was recently spotted on Chinese certification agency, TENAA. It was being speculated that Huawei might launch this eH880 as a refreshed version of older Mate 8. Within hours of the TENAA listing being spotted, it was reported that the device will not be a variant of the Huawei Mate 8 but instead will be its successor, named as the Huawei Mate 9.
As per reports, Huawei might add Force Touch display to this new Mate device. The Force Touch display technology is quite similar to Apple’s 3D Touch on iPhones which allows to perform different functions with slight change in pressure. For instance with a longer press you might activate sharing functionality in gallery while a light press might be attributed to the editing function.
As per the TENAA listing, the eH880 has a 6-inch full HD display with 1920 x 1080 resolution, a 2.3 GHz octa-core processor and 4GB RAM. It offers 64GB of internal storage, 128 GB expandable storage via a micro SD card, a 16 megapixel rear camera with LED flash, an 8 megapixel front facing camera and a 3900 mAh battery. It comes with a fingerprint sensor on the back.
The phone runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow operating system with Emotion 4.0 UI. Connectivity options of the device include dual SIM, 4G-LTE, Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS/A-GPS and a micro USB 2.0 port. The phone is 157.3 mm tall, 80.6 mm wide and 8.2 mm thin and it weighs 185 grams.
