HMD Global might revive the Nokia Asha

After the rescuing the Nokia smartphones brand name, it looks like HMD Global may also bring back the Nokia Asha series, according to a new trademark filing. To recall, the Asha brand name was acquired by Microsoft, which was limited to the feature phones with lower price tags.

According to a report by Love Nokia, the Finland based company has registered a new trademark by the name of ASHA with the filling number of 010335677. As per the European Union Intellectual Property Office, the brand name will be used for computer software platform and for wireless communication services in mobile phones and smartphones.

The trademark information states “computer software platform used in mobile telephones and smartphones; mobile phones and smartphones” as well as for the “wireless communication services namely for computer software used in mobile telephones and smartphones in class 38.”

With this filling, HMD Global is expected to launch its new range of feature phones similar to the JioPhone at the affordable price range. Other than this, the company is already rumoured to launch its upcoming Nokia 1 smartphone with the Google’s latest Android Oreo Go Edition, a platform designed for budget smartphones.
