Datawind launches three smartphones with unlimited internet, price starts from Rs 1,999

Datawind's PocketSurfer 2G4 is priced at Rs 1,999 while PockerSurfer 3G4 costs Rs 2,999 and PockerSurfer 3G5 carries a price tag of Rs 5,499.

Datawind, which shot into fame with affordable Aakash tablet, has now launched three cheap smartphones with “unlimited internet browsing” facility. Yes you heard it right, with the new smartphones, you can avail unlimited internet browsing but from one year and on Reliance Communication (RCom) network only. The new handsets are namely – PocketSurfer 2G4 (Rs 1,999) PockerSurfer 3G4 (Rs 2,999) and PockerSurfer 3G5 (Rs 5,499). At the time of writing, the PockerSurfer 3G5 was listed on Homeshop18 for just Rs 3,999 while PockerSurfer 3G4 was available from Naaptol for Rs 2,999.

The PockerSurfer 3G4 has a 4 inch capacitive screen with 800×480 pixels resolution, 1.2 GHz dual core processor, 256 MB RAM, 512 MB ROM, and the 4.4.2 KitKat operating system. This dual SIM smartphone has connectivity apart from Bluetooth, FM radio, WiFi, and dual SIM. It has a 3 megapixel camera and a flash light in its back panel while in the front lies a VGA camera. It claims to offer six hours of talktime. Datawind though has not revealed the exact battery capacity (as per Naaptol listing, it has a 1200 mAh Li-Ion battery).

The costliest among the three, the PockerSurfer 3G5 has a 5 inch capacitive touchscreen with 800×480 pixels resolution, 1.2 GHz dual core processor, Android 4.4.2 operating system, 512 MB RAM, 4 internal storage, 5 megapixel rear camera with flash, and a 0.3 megapixel front camera. As per a listing on an e-retailer’s website, the PockerSurfer 3G5 has a 1350 mAh battery. However, Datawind’s press release says nothing about the battery capacity but claims it to offer six hours of talktime.

The PocketSurfer 2G4 has a 3.5 inch capacitive touchscreen with 320×480 pixels resolution. It has a 1 GHz processor and the Android 4.0 KitKat operating system. The handset has 256 MB RAM and 512 MB internal storage. This dual SIM smartphone offers 2G connectivity, WiFi, Bluetooth, and FM radio. It has a VGA rear camera and claims to offer 4 hours of talktime (battery capacity not revealed).
