Over the past year social networking has become a rage in the country. In fact, ‘Are you on Facebook’ has replaced the usual greetings.

With people’s need to stay connected increasing, the use of social networking on mobiles has been gaining prominence. Most handsets come preloaded with various social networking apps like Facebook, Orkut, Twitter etc and Facebook Chat has become one of the most preferred ways of chatting with friends.

If you too are a fan of Facebook Chat, then FriendChat is the application for you. It is an instant service for Symbian devices which will keep you connected with all your Facebook friends. However, the application is not developed by Facebook, but by Bolser Agency.

Once downloaded, you need to login using your Facebook user id and password. The homescreen opens with a list of all your Facebook friends, and on the right hand side you will see their status. Currently online friends will automatically be at the top of the list.

The bottom of the screen gives you three options, namely Friends, Chats and Settings. While Friends lists all contacts, the Chats page shows all friends you are chatting with at the time. It is possible to have multiple conversations simultaneously.

In addition, it is possible to login either with an email address or Facebook username, and enable or disable notification sounds.

The application does not support any other Facebook feature apart from chat. FriendChat is compatible with Symbian S^3 and Symbian OS S60 5.0 touch devices. We reviewed the application on the Nokia N8 and it worked fine.
