Windows Phone Tango build spotted online

Number of device statistics and benchmark listings point at the Windows Phone 7.1 Tango build in works with Microsoft.

A latest version of Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7.1 Tango operating system, which is expected as an update of Windows Phone Mango, has been spotted.

It thus to some extent confirms earlier reports that Microsoft is working on an affordable version of Windows Phone 7.x OS and the version was codenamed as Tango build.

The Windows Phone 7.5 Mango build is already being used by the participating device manufacturers to shell out high-end as well as mid-high end devices such as HTC Radar, HTC Titan, and Nokia Lumia series. However, in order to capture more of the smartphone market pie, Microsoft is also working on a ‘stripped down’ version of the WP 7.5 Mango which would be dubbed as Tango.

So far the company has been tight-lipped about the features that would exist in this build and the ones that would be eliminated. Also it would be interesting to see the different hardware options participating handset manufacturers have to offer to make the handset more compelling when compared to the rival operating system based devices.

The Lynx Interactive WP7 device stats page gives away the latest build being Windows Phone 7.10.8722 running on the HTC Mazaa handset.

Nokia along with number of others handset marketers like ZTE would be introducing a range of Windows Phone 7.1 Tango handsets that will have comparatively low-end hardware. Expect these handsets to have lower image sensor, under clocked processor and lesser memory. With the builds making random rounds online, we believe that Microsoft may announce the Tango based devices sometime early next year.
