Sony is reportedly working on a bezel-less smartphone with 4K display

The smartphone will be based on the new ‘Ambient Flow’, which Sony introduced at the MWC 2018.

Sony has finally adopted the new 18:9 display trend with the launch of Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Compact. Now, it seems that the brand is also preparing a new flagship device that will feature the 18:9 display with 4K+ resolution.

According to a report by ITHome, the smartphone will be based on the new ‘Ambient Flow’, which Sony introduced at the MWC 2018. The report highlights that the smartphone will feature a 5.5-inch display with HDR support, but sporting an 18:9 display could mean that the phone might sport a screen resolution of 4320 x 2180 pixels. The smartphone is also reported to be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 and one could expect it to launch in second half of this year.

Sony first introduced its 4K display in 2015 with the launch of Xperia Z5 Premium, however, the phone did not receive much fanfare. The company didn’t stop there and it introduced another smartphone with 4K display with the launch of Xperia XZ Premium. Giving a 4K display seems to be tempting, but many industry experts believe that the difference between QHD and 4K resolutions in such small screen of a smartphone is not visible to naked eyes.

Sony launched Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Compact smartphonesat the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 event yesterday. The Sony Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Compact are priced at €800 and €600 respectively. €800 roughly translates to Rs 64,000 and €600 is approximately Rs 48,000.

The Sony Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Compact are company’s first devices to feature 18:9 aspect ratio and a bezel-less display. The Xperia XZ2 comes in Liquid Silver, Liquid Black, Deep Green, and Ash Pink colours while the Xperia XZ2 Compact comes in White Silver, Black, Moss Green, and Coral Pink colour variants. Both the smartphones will roll out globally starting in late March or early April.
