Nokia announces Nokia 100 and 101 low cost phones

Nokia announces the launch of its low cost handsets for the next million in both dual SIM and single SIM options.

Nokia has unveiled two pocket friendly mobile phones for the very basic of users. Built to grab the ‘Next Billion’ users, the Nokia 100 and 101 comes as a reliable, inexpensive and a much relevant option for mobile users.

The low-cost phones are based on the Series 30 operating system. Nokia 101 supports and has an MP3 player with up to 16 GB of expandable memory. It also sports 3.5mm connectivity.

Designed with the fact in mind that mobile phones are often shared between families, Nokia 100 and 101 can support up to five separate address books and store personalisation details for up to five different SIM cards.

Even though these devices are price low, both the handsets come with full colour display and are loaded with features such a FM radio and a flashlight. The battery life of these devices, Nokia claims, is massive at 6.5 hours of approximately or up to 25 days of between recharges.

These phones will also be offered with Nokia Life Tools, allowing the delivery of market information, weather forecasts, health advice, language tuition and entertainment news to an on-board using specially created messages.

In India these phones will come preloaded with Nokia Money, an initiative to minimise carrying cash and using your mobile as your shopping card. Presently this initiative is already being implemented in India through partnerships with Union Bank of India (UBI), Yes Bank, Obopay and a wide range of merchants, retailers and business correspondents.

Both the devices, Nokia 100 and Nokia 101 will go on sale starting next month onwards in selected countries Including India to begin with and is expected to cost approximately Rs 1,500 for the Nokia 100 and Rs 2,000 for the Nokia 101 mobile phone.
