Nokia 3 to directly get Android 8.0 Oreo update, skips Android 7.1.2 Nougat

Nokia 8, 5, 6 and 3 smartphones are also confirmed to get the next Android P update, as well.

Nokia 3 was launched this year with 7.0 Nougat operating system but was later updated to Android 7.1.1 Nougat in September this year. The device was expected to be rolled out with the Android 7.1.2 update by November but it never arrived. Now, it has been confirmed that Nokia 3 will skip Android 7.1.2 Nougat update and it will directly receive Oreo update instead.

In response to user query over the company’s firmware roll-out programme for the device on Twitter, Juho Sarvikas, Chef Product Officer for HMD Global, revealed that Nokia 3 will straight jumpto Android 8.0 Oreo. Sadly, Sarvikas has not revealed any time frame for the update. Recently Nokia 8 has started receiving the Oreo update while the Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 are expected to receive the Android 8.0 update before the end of the year. The Oreo update will first release for Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 smartphone and then it will be available on the Nokia 3 smartphone. It is also important to note that Nokia 8, 5, 6 and 3 smartphones are confirmed to get the next Android P update, as well.

Nokia 3 currently retails at Rs 8,745 on Flipkart in India and was earlier available through offline channels only. Later it was listed online on Croma (an electric store) as well as offline bookings. As far as specifications are concerned, Nokia 3 comes with 5-inch 2.5 D curved displays with protection. We get 1.3 GHz Quad-Core MediaTek MTK 6737 with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage which is expandable up to 128GB via microSD card. Nokia 3 runs on Android 7.0 Nougat and packs in a 2650 battery inside.

For the optics, we get a combination of 8-megapixel cameras on both front and back with f/2.0 aperture, 1.12-micron size along with flash at the back and display flash at the front. For connectivity, we have Micro USB (USB 2.0), USB OTG, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and NFC for sharing. Apart from this, we get (G-sensor), ambient light sensor, e-compass, fingerprint sensor, gyroscope, and a proximity sensor. The device measures at 143.4 x 71.4 x 8.48 mm.
