Is Xiaomi skipping Mi 7 launch at MWC 2018?

The Mobile World Congress is set to be held next month in Barcelona. While earlier reports have suggested that Xiaomi’s upcoming Mi 7 will be unveiled at the MWC event, a new report has now surfaced online which is just contrary to the earlier report.

As per a report of Headlines, the company will not be launching the Mi 7 next month in the event. The story has cited a high-ranking company official who says that company will not make any significant announcements at the event. It is entirely a possibility that the company might just unveil its Surge S2 chipset. As per reports, Xiaomi Mi 6X will be the first smartphone powered by Xiaomi’s in-house Surge S2 processor.

The Xiaomi Surge S2 will have four ARM Cortex A53 cores clocked at 1.8GHz and the other four ARM Cortex A73 cores clocked at 2.2GHz. The is coupled with Mali G71 MP8 for improved power efficiency which is a significant upgrade over the Mali-T860MP4 GPU found in the Surge S1. Other rumoured features of Surge S2 are 2.1 storage and LPDDR4 RAM. The performance of the Surge S2 will be on par with Kirin 960 chipset announced by Huawei in October 2017. However, the new chipset may not have support for CDMA networks.

Meanwhile, another report that appeared on the Chinese micro-blogging site, Weibo last week revealed that the Mi Mix 2S would be unveiled ahead of MWC. Xiaomi was also expected to launch the Mi Mix 2S during the Mobile World Congress event.

As per earlier reports, Mi 7 might come with a 6.01-inch bezel-less display. It will be powered with Qualcomm’s upcoming flagship processor, Snapdragon 845 which will be coupled with 6GB of RAM. The Mi 7 also will be packed with a 3950mAh battery and support dual-standby.

For the camera department, the Xiaomi Mi 7 is said to feature dual rear cameras with a combination of 19MP + 19MP sensor with an of f1.7 and 4x optical zoom. For the front, there will be a 16-megapixel sensor. The smartphone is also rumoured to support fast charging. The Xiaomi Mi 7 is said to come in two variants – 6GB with 128GB internal storage and 8GB RAM with 256GB internal storage.
