Selfies are all the rage these days, and manufacturers are only spurring people to take more. Here are two devices that stake claim to being the selfie king, Both the Micromax Canvas Selfie and Gionee Elife E7 Mini are available for around Rs 15,000. But there are many differences between the two phones apart from their apparent similarities.
Design and Display
The only common thing between the two phone is that both have unibody made of plastic. Micromax Canvas Selfie has curved top and bottom panels and has a stitched back panel that mirrors a leather unit but it isn’t.
The highlight of Gionee Elife E7 Mini is its rotating camera module -the same 13 Megapixel unit acts as a rear camera and when rotated towards the front it acts as a front camera.
Both the phones have a 4.7 inch display but the Canvas Selfie is much bigger than the E7 Mini as it has bigger bezels at the top and bottom of the display due to which it looks like a 5 inch phone.
Design basis, I would inclined towards the Gionee Elife E7 Mini which is much trendy than the Micromax handset.
The Gionee Elife E7 Mini has a 4.7 inch HD IPS display as is the Canvas Selfie.
Processor & Memory
The Micromax Canvas Selfie has an octa-core 1.7 GHz processing unit with 2 GB of RAM. The Internal Memory stands at 16 GB, to which you can add another 32 GB via a micro SD card. The Gionee Elife E7 Mini too has an octa-core 1.7 GHz processor, but with only 1 GB of RAM. The internal memory stands at 16 GB, and unfortunately, it cannot be expanded.
The Canvas Selfie wins this round, as it has 1 GB extra RAM and 32 GB of extra storage.
Software
The Gionee Elife E7 Mini has recently got the Android KitKat update with the second version of Gionee’s Amigo OS. The Amigo OS adds a lot of customisations and animations over the stock Android experience, making it a very enjoyable experience.
Ironically, the Micromax Canvas Selfie too offers the Android KitKat version with Amigo OS like interface (does not have all the features, it only has one thing in common – the App drawer is missing). What is more ironic is that the Canvas Selfie was launched just last week despite that it does not offer the latest Android Lollipop version while the Gionee Elife E7 Mini was launched way back in 2013.
Battery
The Micromax Canvas Selfie has a 2300 mAh battery which can provide up to 8.5 hours of Talk time or 198 hours of standby time.
The Gionee Elife E7 Mini on the other hand has a 2100 mAh battery, but it claims to offer 12 hours of talk time or up to 400 hours of standby, making it the run away winner of this round.
Camera
The Gionee Elife E7 Mini has only one camera, that rotates to the front to act as a selfie taker. It is a 13 megapixel unit with scene detection, smile detection, flash, face detection, auto-focus, continuous shooting, HDR, and video recording at 1080p at 30 fps.
The Micromax Canvas selfie also has a 13 megapixel primary camera, and a 13 megapixel secondary camera too. They both feature Sony sensors. Also present are features like eye enhancement, skin smoothening, teeth whitening, remove oil, make up, fade dark circles, and so on. The rear camera has flash, and both can record videos.
Only a real world test of the Gionee Elife E7 Mini will reveal whether it is any good or not but due to its rotating camera it gets one advantage – you can click images from certain angles that is impossible to do with regular devices like Canvas Selfie. Meanwhile, you can check out our camera test of the Micromax Canvas Selfie here.
Connectivity
The Micromax Canvas Selfie has only one SIM slot and it offers 3G, WiFi, GPS, and Bluetooth. On the other hand, Gionee Elife E7 Mini has two SIM slots with 3G, GPS, Bluetooth 4.0.
Wrapping up
The Gionee Elife E7 Mini is unique in terms of design and it looks much better than the Canvas Selfie. However, the Micromax handset has more storage and extra 1 GB of round. We have already reviewed the Micromax Canvas Selfie which you can read here. If any one of you have used the E7 Mini don’t forget to share your experience below for the benefit of all.
