Xperia phones launched in 2011 won’t get Android 4.1

Sony has said that Xperia Arc S and Mini Pro won't get upgraded to Google's Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system.

Sony through its Facebook page has announced that its Xperia Arc S and Mini Pro will not be getting the 4.1 Jelly bean update. This has also raised questions about the availability of the update for other Xperia phones announced in year 2011.

Though company had earlier said that all of its 2011 Xperia phones will be upgraded to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, it has failed to do so till now, and these models are still running on Android 2.3. It is also unclear if Sony will issue Android 4.0 upgrade at all for these devices.

In response to a customer, Sony explained, “Unfortunately Arc S won’t be getting the Jelly Bean update but we’re always developing new phones and making sure they get the latest updates.”

Sony’s Facebook post added, “The Xperia Mini Pro won’t be getting Jelly Bean.” If this is any indication of things to come, Xperia Active, Neo V, Live with Walkman and Xperia Mini are also likely to miss out on Google’s latest version of Android. However, given their high end specification Xperia S and Xperia Ion devices are likely to get updated.
