Xiaomi won’t launch Redmi Note 2 in India: Report

An Ericsson lawsuit bars Xiaomi from launching any phone in India with Mediatek processor so it can't bring its recently launched Redmi Note 2 to India.

Xiaomi won’t launch the Redmi Note 2 in India as it is facing a lawsuit from Ericsson that bars it from selling any phone with Mediatek in India, according to a report of BGR.

“We are continuously evaluating new products that can be launched in India. But, as of now we do not have plans to launch Redmi Note 2 in India,” a Xiaomi spokesperson was quoted as saying by BGR India.

Ericsson filed the lawsuit in the year 2014 and the case is still being heard by the courts.

Last week, Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 2 and Note 2 Prime in China. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 (4G) is priced at CNY 899 or approximately Rs 9,000 while its variant will be available at CNY 799 or approximately Rs 8,000. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Prime has a price tag of CNY 999 or approximately Rs 10,000.

The Redmi Note 2 has an 2 GHz, octa-core MediaTek Helio X10 and 2GB RAM. The handset offers a 5.5 inch full display. For photography, the Redmi Note 2 offers a 13-megapixel rear camera with Samsung camera sensor, f/2.2 aperture, 5-element lens and phase detection autofocus. As per the company, this camera has shutter speed of 0.1 second. For selfies, it has a 5-megapixel front camera.

Besides, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 has an 3060 battery, 16 internal storage, Lollipop operating system with MIUI 7 interface, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, infra red and dual SIM. The Redmi Note 2 measures 152x76x8.25mm.
