Samsung is inviting media organisations for an event today (August 23) where in it will launch a smartphone. Though the invite says nothing about the device, everyone is expecting it to be the Tizen based Samsung Z2 which is being expected for quite a long time.

As per earlier reports, Samsung Z2 will be launched in India at Rs 4,499 in Black and White colors. The phone is rumored to come with Jio Preview offer. Samsung Z2 was spotted earlier with model number SM-Z200F. It is rumoured to have a a 4-inch AMOLED display; there is no information about its display resolution. The phone reportedly has a quad core processor, 1GB of RAM, Tizen 3.0 and 2,000 battery with a design that’s similar to the previous Tizen phone. It was recently photographed during Note 7’s launch event with Indian applications – Jabong, Indiatimes, and OLX.

This is the fourth Samsung Tizen smartphone after Samsung Z, Samsung Z1 and Samsung Z3. Based on Linux, the Tizen has the backing of many organisations, especially Samsung and Intel, who want to create an alternate open operating system like the Android.

The initial build of Tizen was released in January 2012 but after that very few devices came with the OS. Samsung’s wearables are also based on the Tizen platform.
