Nokia 5.1 Plus will get Android 9 Pie at midnight tonight

The update brings all the features from Google’s Android 9 Pie interface. The Nokia 5.1 Plus will thus feature advanced machine learning and AI features, such as Adaptive Battery and App Actions and will ensure smarter resourcing of power and processing and accelerate smartphone functionality.

HMD Global introduced the Nokia 5.1 Plus earlier this year as an Android One smartphone for Rs 10,999. Having already confirmed that the device will be updated to the latest version of Android within the end of the year, there’s a surprise development in the making. Sources close to the company told The Mobile Indian that an update to Android 9.0 Pie for the Nokia 5.1 Plus will be seeded to users starting midnight tonight.

The update comes just a week after the Nokia 6.1 Plus received an update to Android 9 Pie and brings all the features from Google’s Android latest interface. After the update, the Nokia 5.1 Plus will feature advanced machine learning and features, such as Adaptive Battery and Actions and will ensure smarter resourcing of power and processing and accelerate smartphone functionality.

Since the Nokia 5.1 Plus comes under Google’s Android One initiative, the device will come with all Android 9 Pie features including App actions, Adaptive battery, New System navigation, Slices, Adaptive brightness and Google’s Digital Wellbeing. App Actions learns more about your daily usage and assists you with your everyday tasks while Adaptive Battery uses deep learning to understand patterns in phone usage and prioritises battery power for apps that are important to you.

The Nokia 5.1 Plus will now welcome a new single home button that provides intelligent predictions and suggestions when enabled. The Slices feature Identifies relevant information of your favourite apps to make them more easily accessible when needed.

Android 9 Pie on Nokia 5.1 Plus will also bring Digital Wellbeing features in future updates consisting of a Dashboard that highlights screen time and phone usage and App Timers to set time limits on a particular app. There’s a Wind Down mode which lets users set a daily schedule to get their phone ready for bed. The Do Not Disturb feature shifts the phone screen to grayscale and also silences notifications for a restful sleep when enabled.

To recall, Nokia 5.1 Plus has a 5.86-inch display, 2GHz octa-core MediaTek Helio P60 processor, 3GB of with 32GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 256GB via micro card slot. It runs on Android 8.1 Oreo and has a 3000mAh battery. For the camera, the phone has dual rear cameras of a 13-megapixel primary and a secondary 5-megapixel sensor and an 8-megapixel selfie camera.
