Microsoft has announced the launch of its most affordable 4G smartphone, named as Lumia 550. It was infact first revealed back in October this year and is expected to be launched in India early next year.
“Starting today, Microsoft Lumia 550, Microsoft’s most affordable 4G LTE smartphone running Windows 10, is available in select markets at $139 USD,” Microsoft said in its blog posted yesterday night.
Sales of the new Microsoft Lumia 550 has already begun in Europe while sale in other regions around the globe will follow in the coming weeks, the company added.
The Microsoft Lumia 550 has a 4.7 inch HD display and is armed with the 1.1 GHz Snapdragon 210 quad core processor. It has 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of inbuilt memory and an expandable storage slot that could hold a micro SD card of 200 GB capacity.
The Microsoft Lumia 550, which measures 136.1 x 67.8 x 9.9 mm, weighs 141.9 grams with its 2100 mAh removable battery. The Lumia 550 offers a 5 megapixel auto focus rear camera with f/2.4 Aperture and single LED flash light and a 2 megapixel front camera.
Being a Windows 10 device, the Lumia 550 offers Microsoft apps such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), Cortana, OneDrive, Outlook Mail, Outlook Calender and Skype.
As per the pictures (check the notification bar), the Lumia 550 seems to have a single SIM slot, WiFi, GPS and Bluetooth. Microsoft has anyway confirmed that it is 4G compatible.
In our view, at $139 or Rs 9,280 approximately, the Lumia 550 is just an okay device considering its features. On the other hand, Android devices with similar specs are available almost half that price.
