Motorola’s latest offering, the Moto Turbo has been launched in India for Rs 41,999. It will be thus up against many high end smartphones including the Nexus 6 (32 GB) which is available for Rs 43,999. Let us see how these two impressive offerings fare against each other.
Design and Display
The Motorola Moto Turbo is quite a bid device, measuring 143.5 x 73.3 8.3 mm and weighs 166 grams. Motorola is said to have used a unique material for its back panel, called Ballistic Nylon, which is the porous cloth normally found on backpack straps.
The Motorola Google Nexus 6 too is a large phone measuring 159.3 x 83 x 10.1 mm and tips the scales at 184 grams. But one should here not that the Nexus 6 has a 6 inch display compared to 5.2 inch of Moto Turbo, and hence the difference in size.
The Nexus 6’s 6 inch AMOLED Display has resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels, resulting in a Pixel density of 493 ppi. The Moto Turbo on the other hand has a 5.2 inch OLED display with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels, resulting in a pixel density of 565 pixels.
Processor & Memory
The Moto Turbo, running on Android Lollipop, has a quad-core 2.7 GHz Snapdragon 805 processor with and Adreno 420 GPU. The Turbo has 3 GB of RAM and 64 GB of non expandable internal memory. The Nexus 6 also runs on Android Lollipop, and has the same processing unit, GPU, and RAM as the Turbo. This version of the Nexus, priced at Rs 43,999 has 32 GB of non expandable internal storage.
Both these phones run Stock Android Lollipop, making them fast and snappy to use. However, the Nexus will definitely be the first to get the upgrade to the next generation of Android, Android M. However, since Lollipop was a very major upgrade, unlike the stop-gap KitKat, do not expect an all new Android before mid-2016 at the least.
Battery
The Moto Turbo has a 3900 mAh battery, but Motorola has not revealed how long it will last. Whereas the Nexus 6 has a 3220 mAh battery that can provide up to 24 hours of Talk time or 330 hours of standby.
We expect that the Moto Turbo will have a better battery life than the Nexus 6, thanks to its smaller display, and much larger battery.
Camera
The Motorola Nexus 6 has a 13 Megapixel primary camera with auto-focus, flash, geo-tagging, face detection, HDR, optical image stabilizer, and video recording at 2160p at 30 fps, and a 2 megapixel front camera.
The Motorola Moto Turbo has a 21 megapixel primary camera with auto-focus, flash, geo-tagging, face detection, panorama, HDR, and video recording at 2160p at 24 fps, and a 2 megapixel front camera.
The Moto Turbo has the advantage in this round, thanks to the extra megapixels. But the Nexus does have optical image stabilisation in its favour. We will wait for a real world comparison, but for now, the Moto Turbo wins this round.
Connectivity
Both these phones are single SIM devices with 4G, WiFi, WiFi Direct, WiFi Hotspot GPS (with GLONASS), Bluetooth 4.0, DLNA, and NFC.
Wrapping Up
These two really make very good cases for themselves. The size here matters the most as not all will be comfortable with a 6 inch device. Also, the Moto Turbo seems to have a better camera. Other than that, it is almost a tie between Motorola Moto Turbo and Nexus 6.
