Tips for photography on mobiles

0

Most mobile phones, except the very basic ones, possess camera ranging from 0.3 megapixels to as high as 14 megapixels. The cameras of newer models, especially of the smartphones, are even better allowing users to click pictures whose quality if not superior can be compared to pictures taken with a dedicated camera.

However, a powerful lens would not ensure a better picture. Instead, there are certain basic procedures which if followed would help users make their mobile phone clicked pictures look better.

Here are some simple things users can do to improve the quality of the photographs taken from phones:

Most smartphone users tend to begin the editing of their images right away on their phones as it is easy to launch an and do it. However, editing images on a computer is a far better choice considering the bigger screen and the editing tools one get on a normal PC.

Users should make sure they take their pictures in colour at high to keep their options open at the time of processing of the images. The colour pictures can always be converted into black and white but if the pictures have been taken in black-and-white, they can’t be made colour.

Even if a picture looks like a mistake, users would do well to hang on to it till they see it on a computer. Chances are, the pictures don’t look that good on a mobile may do on the computer. If the images look good on the PC monitor, good enough, if they don’t the users always have the option to delete the images later. Many times, even the mistakes and blurred images begin to look good on a PC or a Mac.

The smartphone users are always tempted to use the zoom feature on their camera phones. The makes the images pixelated. Those users who do not intend to print the pictures for later use may use the digital zoom feature.

Some smartphones are now coming out with optical zooms as well, wherein the image quality is not affected by zooming and even full resolution of the camera can be used on the zoomed image.

There are numerous camera phones in the market which come with adjustable white balance, thus allowing the users to manage the colour balance in their images. Users need to experiment with their pictures a lot to control this feature in their camera phones, but once they master it, the picture quality improves considerably.

Last but not the least, knowing when the shutter of camera goes off is important for the users to understand what kind of pictures to expect from their camera phones.

First look: Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo V

0

Sony Ericsson has been in the mobile phone and smartphone arena for quite sometime now and the years of experience it has gained over the years is evident in its products. The latest example of this is the new Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo V smartphone that has been launched in India at Rs 17,500.

The most commendable thing about Xperia Neo V is its subtle yet stunning appearance that will definitely be liked by most users. Plus, the build quality of the device is superb. Xperia Neo V feels sturdy and right from the moment you take this device in the palm of your hand you feel confident about it. The rounded corner adds a touch of class and comfort for the user and most importantly, the design is somewhat similar to that of the older Neo which was much appreciated by users. For people using the older Xperia Neo, though, this device won’t be very different.

Although Neo V is the upgraded version of Neo it costs about Rs 6,000 less.

The display of Neo V remains the same as in the old version. It is a 3.7 inch display with 480 x 854 pixel resolution and 265 ppi pixel density. It is bright and reproduces vibrant visuals, a known benefit of Sony Ericsson devices. The resolution and screen size are perfect and can playback 720p videos.

Coming back to the design the Neo V has its main button in the same place as its predecessor does and on the right hand side you will find the camera key, volume rockers and power/screen toggle switch.

Neo V has the same processor, display and functionality as the older Neo but along with the price the camera has been reduced to 5 as compared to the 8 megapixel camera on the Neo.

But on the other hand the lower resolution camera also gets HD video recording capability in 720p at 30 frames per second and 3D sweep panorama image capture mode, which was added to Sony Ericsson Arc S as well.

All in all, the device looks good, but how it fares in the real world will only be known once we review it more thoroughly. So keep watching this space.

EA & Samsung to bring Dead Space to Android

0

Samsung is working closely with game publishers and developers to bring top gaming titles to its upcoming game distribution service &#151 Games Hub. AndroidandMe reported that Electronic Arts has ported Dead Space to run on Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. There is no official word about the game from Electronic Arts or Samsung but it is expected to be out soon.

Electronic Arts is among the largest game publishers with several popular titles in its library. While several Android games continue to receive lukewarm attention from consumers, Samsung is pulling up its socks to make gaming big. However, it is not the first company to do this.

Earlier this year Sony launched the PlayStation Suite that will aid developers to create better and PlayStation certified games for Android. But that wasn’t getting enough attention despite Gameloft offering several quality games at affordable prices.

Samsung is working with Electronics Arts to bring popular PC games like Dead Space to the Android platform and make the best of the powerful hardware in these. For instance, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet packs a dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 and the Dead Space port for Android.

Instapaper for iOS gets an upgrade

0

Instapaper is a news reading for devices which got a major update including Wikipedia integration. The app itself was popular among iOS users who read a lot of news anyway. The app works by saving copies of content for offline reading on the device, and users can also share what they read on Facebook and Twitter.

With the current upgrade, the app has become even more useful. The first thing that catches attention is the new design both for the iPad and iPhone. The app looks like a real newspaper on the iPad as it now has grid columns showing different stories instead of just showing the usual list of stories. At the same time, the iPhone version still sports the stories in a list format though there is some redesign in navigation.

The creator of Instapaper, Marco Arment, says on his blog, “The iPad browsing interface has been completely redesigned to feel more at home in the iPad environment. Instead of just being a blown-up full-screen list, it’s now a more touch-friendly grid.”

Users can now also choose to read texts in white on a black background instead of the usual black on white. The brightness of the device can also be managed from within the app itself, and those who want to get more space on the iPhone screen can simply choose to remove the status bar. Last but not least, when the user wants to read more about a topic that he comes across on a page, he can do so on Wikipedia.

The Instapaper blog post further says, “Instapaper now has a true search feature, available as part of the $1/month subscription. Subscribers can now search the full contents of every article they’ve ever saved to Instapaper: unread, filed into folders, or in the archive. Deleted items can’t be searched because they’re really deleted. The new search feature is built right into the app.”
