Samsung has announced four new handsets in its Galaxy series running 2.3 Gingerbread.

The company has simplified the nomenclature of its Galaxy series which usually creates confusion among its potential users. As per the new naming strategy, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy series handsets will carry the names: Super Smart (S), Royal/Refined (R), Wonder (W), Magical (M) and Young (Y).

The flagship Android devices from Samsung will carry the Galaxy S branding where S stands for ‘Super Smart’. Galaxy S series smartphones will be top of the line smartphones with large screens and heavy-horsepower hardware under the hood.

After that comes the premium model series, Galaxy R where R stands for ‘Royal’ or ‘Refined’. The Galaxy R series devices will combine power, design and productivity but will not have all the features that the flagship model has.

In the higher segment falls the Galaxy W series in which W stands for ‘Wonder’. The smartphone will feature high quality strategic models for those who want a stylish handset that can perform well.

The Galaxy M series – where M is for ‘Magical’ – will comprise handsets with decent performance at an economical price. The handsets in the Galaxy M series will fall under the mid-range segment.

Google’s new browser for Android

0

Google is working on a new for operating system. A Google team would be working with WebKit on the new browser which will be completely open source &#151 though the Android-specific elements will be removed from the browser.

Android users have always wondered why browser is not present on the platform yet &#151 especially since the same company makes both these products. Google was using another browser on Android, which was not called Chrome although it did share some code with Chrome.

According to a WebKit blog post, “We anticipate a reasonably small set of changes to the Chromium port to achieve this. We’re fully committed to maintaining this new flavour of the Chromium port of WebKit, and having a build bot up and running as soon as possible will make this an easier task.”

Google’s move is likely to result in a mature mobile browser, if the experience of other browsers based on the WebKit, including on iOS, and browsers on Samsung Bada and others are anything to go by. Google has always been conscious of branding issues, so expect the browser to be named Chromium or Chrome.

Logitech joystick for iPad

0

To cater to the needs of iPad users who love to play games on their devices, Logitech has launched a joystick for iPads.

The joystick is designed to help users play games on their tablets but the best part of this accessory is that it does not need power or connectivity.

Logitech’s Joystick for iPad is a thumb-stick game controller that you can use with just about any game with an on-screen joystick or D-pad. The device attaches to your iPad with suction cups that are easy to apply and easy to remove.

The coiled spring provides force feedback that automatically returns the joystick to the center position. This way it gives the user precise control over movement and over the game as well, making it the perfect accessory any tablet gamer would want.

Logitech’s Joystick is expected to be available in the USA and European markets beginning this September at a suggested retail price of $20 or Rs 500. There is no information as to when this device will be available in India.

Google adds new features to Android Market

0

Google has added a number of things to the Market including a +1 button and a number for application or content purchases. The additional PIN number will prevent accidental purchases or rather will minimise them, especially when movies and other such content comes to Android Market.

This is the second biggest update of Android Market since July. The look and feel of Android Market has been spruced up and users will now get swipe functionality for shifting or moving between apps on their devices. This transition allows users to comfortably browse through hundreds of apps and makes it easier for them to stay focused.

The update is available over the air only and the notification will appear on your device as soon as the is available in your region. If you are amongst the ones who cannot wait any more for laying your hands on the file, then you can use the this party link.

But beware, it’s an external or third party link and The Mobile Indian does not give any sort of guarantee with this link. We have however tried the application ourselves and it works perfectly well.

At present the application will only work on smartphones running Android 2.2 and above.
